What to do till the pets are back?

Hey all

don't know about you...at first I enjoyed the freedom of our forced holiday and posted in areas where I usually don't post on here cause I had the time for it all of a sudden....but by now I'm getting bored and want to go back to work but there is no work yet

so I thought we need something to keep us going till our early summer holiday here is over and we have the pest back....don't know what yet though....

maybe we should discuss how to handle things once they are back?
or how we could improve our ministry here on CF?
What could we change in the way we operate to make things easier for all of us? any ideas?
and for team grace - what do we do with our pb accounts? how are we going to organise them for easier usage?

and if you don't want to talk about work without being able to do anything - how about just encouraging each other to hang in there till the pets are back and PRAY for the people working on bringing them back - especially the programming guy - as well as all the pet owners out there missing their pets

Team Grace: just started transfering the finished images into our second account....and sorting them trough once they're there....next step will be creating a new thread for posting finished stuff only - probably will need one person in charge there....

if we finish anything we could add them to the old account in a subalbum named finished (or something similar) and the person responsible for the finished graphics thread in the forum here could move them to the other account, sort them in there and then post them...this way we could keep track of what has alrady been published in the forum and keep the account tidy at the same time....

zfanwz posted some really good ideas and questions in the volunteers thread - just copying them over for discussion:

• should we (find a way to) revise the adoption contract to strongly suggest not charging more than 500 per pet put into adoption center? and perhaps we may need to edit some of the other greetings and welcome messages when we return as well I suppose.

• graphics team Grace - there are many of us now interested in graphics and we have several threads here as well as a scattored array of PB accounts and folders/files in those accounts - I think we ought to elest some kind of team leader for this extension of our services and perhaps even have some structured tasks such as sending greeting cards to pet owners at holidays, sending congrats to new pet owners - with a welcome letter and expalanation of who we are and how we can help, and maybe providing a thread/space within the workers area to be available to workers to help with minor tech stuff that we are in the know about such as setting up avatars and siggys (although we will have to learn again lol) etc etc

• I am just thinking (out loud) that there are some areas in the pet ministries here that have some loose ends that might need some spring cleaning and tieing up loose ends. anything I say here is only suggestion or an opening to begin a dialog not necessarily a fervent request.

• also there is some talk now that we have access to the P3TZ site and most of us can see what options are available including a means of putting the pets to permanent sleep (in particular those that have been abandoned one year +) that I feel we maybe ought to have some dialog and discussion about. we are usually tight on workers as it is and alleviating any possible busy work would be well appreciated I am sure. I know that the upper admin actually controls which of these features will be allowed or disabled, but I think as the pets forums servants we should have a voice in the matter just as there is a space on the home page to suggest new features/forums etc. again we wont know what the actual scoop is going to be on these pets til we come back up but while we are donw I just wanted to throw this out there for us to think about while we are down.

my opinion:

1) good idea...since they need to code most of the stuff anyway we could suggest that they add a message to putting your pet up for adoption that tells owners about the pets chance sbeing bigger the smaller the amount asked and that pets usually get deleted at the end of the month (if they will still get deleted with the new system)....and maybe add one that advertises adoption to the page where they can create new pets as well

2) think we really need a leader again....
and I really like the idea of welcoming new pet owners....once we know how the new system works we can work on a new petFAQ with the most important things (probably wants posting as a sticky in the main forum then) and we could add a link to that in the welcoming message....this is a really brilliant idea though we would still have to work out who sends the message - maybe an automatic message like when you donate blessings altough I don't know how much extra work coding that would be and it might be better to have a personal one in which case the worker looking after the pet should send it together with some info on what petrescuers do/ don't do and introducing themselves as the one checking on their pet....
working on the pb chaos right now not deleting anything yet just moving stuff over to the other account....

3) ideal time for spring cleaning now....one idea i had is write down the official opinion of cfpetrescue on some of the hot issues like not feeding pets etc. so that when issues arise in the main forum we have some place to look up the official guidelines...hope that makes sense - sort of a discussion guide on pet topics for pet workers....

4) I haven't had a look at the site yet - could someone post the link?
as for putting pets to sleep I think we would have to discuss that - if they have the feature in the version we'll get on here...probably have a poll to deside how we're going to handle this....

thanks for all your help with graphics and feedback 22!! I really appreciate it, since other areas of 'communication' seem to have been shut down.

I wonder though now that we have the PB all organized - will it all be outdated? if the new pets look drastically different - whicfh I believe they will though I am not sure - then what? hence I have put a lot of my graphics work with CF Pets on hold. but glad that we are getting organized in the mean while as we await more 'orders'.

also I just registered with P3TZ to maybe get an idea of these pets and it looks like they are not very organized or stable themselves! I am wondering if CF is still going to use these pets or if there is some other place that hosts pets that would be a better altenative......

dont know if I am breaking any rules by copy/pasting this but since it does very much concern us I feel we at least ought to know what CF has proposed 'getting into'... here is what the lead admin had to say last on P3TZ (notice it is dated in April of this year - wonder why no further posts being made?)

Ok it's been a while. P3tz has been on pause a while I think my schedule got unexpectedly busy and then in my free time I was making some animations and stuff so not alot of progress was being made. In some ways it's not all bad news because I have been following the vbulletin 3.7 development a bit and it has alot of changes so I think the next version of p3tz will be for 3.7 rather than 3.6. I know some people will be like but you should support the old version but comeon I'm one guy and I want to move forward so it's either you upgrade to 3.7 or you stick with the old p3tz.

Since I'll only actually release v4. when 3.7 reaches gold it may be a while away but there is still alot of work to do on the next version. Currently I am observing how the hunger works in v4.0 (without the cron) I'm not convinced it is working totally but I'll open up the system on these boards soon. I'm going to upgrade to 3.7 RC1 and then try to get 4.0 opened up on this board.

Anyway I said to Paul I would post a feature list for the new version so here it is so far:

hmmm....we'll see

I think most of the graphics will be outdated once they change to the new pets only exception is the ones without pets in like names and some of the signature ones....but with the names we've got quite a few of people who aren't on the Team anylonger....so those will need sorting as well...

as I said I just copied all the finished ones for now - once we know how the new pets look we can deside wether we'll still be using some of the old ones (I would keep them - just as a memory - unless we need the space on the account) and then also check on who's still on the team and get rid of the old name signs as well....

I'm wondering as well when the pets will be back.....that quote doesn't make it sound like could be anytime soon but I'm not sure wether they are not just using the programm and changing it themselves for CF....
