  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

There was a time when the whole world looked to Germany for an advancement of humans and eugenics. The United States was a popular place for eugenics, many were euthanized and sterilized. I think the major reason it was stopped was because everyone saw its true face after Nazi Germany was defeated and they saw the consequences of eugenics.

Let's all hope and pray that eugenics is dead. I've heard of some who want to bring it back, I hope heheh never accomplish their goals.
The idea of improving man through genetic manipulation is not dead at all. The whole point is in the word "improve", which simply means "make better", which implies a commonly-agreed upon standard of what is good. Only we don't agree. When their good is my bad, we no longer mean the same thing by the word "improve". The Nazis, by their lights, wanted to improve the human race. So do a great many people today. To the unbeliever, man is the measure of all things, he must be his own god, and decide what is best for himself. As long as there are enough such people, eugenics, under whatever name - or with no name - will always be a real possibility.

Eugenics is not only direct manipulation of genes themselves by scientists. All the things we tolerate today regarding "birth control", abortion, and so on go hand-in-hand with the eugenic philosophy. Man is to be his own god, and create what seems good to him.

renamed from what?
Sorry. It was the American Birth Control League. Once people realized the connections between birth control, eugenics, and what the Nazis were doing, that name became a kiss of death for them - it was too honest. So they invented the current name, which is a much more pleasant-sounding euphemism.

I popped onto Wikipedia. The article on PP has NOTHING on the history of its development. They essentially speak as if the thing popped out (like Athena from Zeus's head?) during the war. Nearly 40 years of history (most notably the League's formation in 1916, and the activism and activity prior to and subsequent. And there is a LOT of history there. But it is so thoroughly and openly tied to eugenics, that they can't admit it at all. Thus their truncated history.

Chesterton wrote his book because there was so much open support for that stuff. I highly recommend it, and then some digging into the history of eugenics.

I can remember this talk when I was younger I used to take a city bus to work some ladies were talking about having their daughters fixed as they said. It was a free operation and they didn't want their daughters having all these kids like they did, this would fix the problem, no children to worry about they would be able to get jobs and not be in the system then. They were on the Welfare system. I thought it was just a horrid thing even back then.

Seriously, if you could back it up with some documentation, that would be worth adding to wikipedia. It would serve a good purpose of exposing them to at least a few honest readers and if they don't post it is yet one more piece of documentation of the mainstream coverup of the Eugenics-->PP connection.

The opening salvo in GKC's book:
The wisest thing in the world is to cry out before you are hurt. It is no good to cry out after you are hurt; especially after you are mortally hurt. People talk about the impatience of the populace; but sound historians know that most tyrannies have been possible because men moved too late. It is often essential to resist a tyranny before it exists. It is no answer to say, with a distant optimism, that the scheme is only in the air. A blow from a hatchet can only be parried while it is in the air.

It's useless. Within a day or so, your edit will be reverted. Documentation will be cited as POV. I'd have to dedicate my life to constantly fighting to keep the truth up. I tried on a few things, now I've given up.

Anyone who reads and thinks, who reads what Sanger wrote, what the eugenists themselves admitted, or even just go and read about the American Birth Control League (hereafter ABCL) and the Birth Control Federation of America, can see that they are just names for one thing, run by the same people. That's how wickedness works. When it is caught, it changes its name.

It's so obvious that you don't even need separate documentation. But for every one person who sees this there are ten people (conservative estimate) determined to suppress it. The bottom line is to not place too much trust in Wikipedia.

A better use of time is to read Chesterton's book.

I agree with your assessment. That is why in high school and college papers professors usually prohibit any references to Wikipedia.

This country treats people with the idea of survival of the fittest. If you can't contribute to the society - bring about a good amount of money - then you're worthless. Look how we treat the unborn, the mentally ill, and the elderly. It's inhumane and disgraceful.

True. In the USA, a person's worth is determined by the sum of his assets, not by his faith.

Yes, this happened. Among the black community it was called a Mississippi appendectomy: you go in to the hospital for one thing, but of you were black and poor you got sterilized. They sterilized teens who were sexually active too.

At my former Protestant church there was a woman who immigrated from south America. She had 5 children in her country then when her husband joined her they continued to have 3 more. On her third pregnancy, the doctor told her she should not have any more children. She asked if there were health reasons for this, but there were none he could name. Well, her healthy pregnancy ended in a cesearian delivery where he sterilized her without her or her husband's consent. Because they were immigrants, poor, etc. they didn't go after the doctor. That was in the 80's.

Also, Dr. J Marion Sims experimented on his female slaves, subjecting them to dozens of gynecological surgeries in the backyard of his home without anesthesia, even though it was available at the time. Once he was certain of his techniques, he offered the surgeries to white women with the benefit of anesthesia in normal hospitals, but he maintained that poor Irish women did not require ether.

Our view of which humans are 'not humans' - not created in the image of God - shifts over time, but it seems persistent that we may all consider some groups to be 'not really human'.

How horrid. People are their individual gods. It's disgusting how people treat each other. I know this shouldn't be shocking as we live in this Fallen world, but it still is upsetting. :(

That's deplorable. Slaves weren't even considered humans, just property at that time. I don't think it's much better today, it's just glossed over (or hidden such as this subject shows)how people treat each other.

They also performed surgery on animals without anesthetic, including live dissection, and on infants until fairly recently.

People have had some weird ideas about pain and what it meant in the past. They all seem like horrible things - not just equating people to animals, but thinking that even animal or non-rational suffering was ok.

That is sick.

I am of Irish descent, and heard of how the Irish were treated during the Potato Famine of 1860s to 1870s.
