Hey everyone...I love theater! I'm curious what made other people fall in love with or become interested in theater?

My grandma taught me to appreciate theater by showing me musicals on video when I was very little. She took me to see the Phantom of the Opera when I was five years old and that's where I was first exposed to the exhilarating feeling that comes with watching live theater. I acted in my first play when I was ten years old, and I was encouraged by several people to continue acting. I did not take theater seriously until I was fourteen years old....and now I can't get enough of it! :)

We had dinky little school plays in elementary and middle school (I attended a private Catholic school, so there were not many children, so most of us had good parts, and solos weren't hard to get), which was fun, but what really got me interested was The Scarlet Pimpernel. I saw Les Miserables before I saw TSP, but I just couldn't bring myself to appreciate it. I didn't get the thrill a lot of people get out of it.

The Scarlet Pimpernel, though, got me hooked. Permanently. After that, I saw The Phantom of the Opera, and was forever addicted to Christine's voice and can usually be found walking around the house singing any one of her solos.

When I was in elementary school they took us to a teaser of Phantom of the Opera. They did the beginning part where Raul comes onstage as an old man and talks about the mystery of the Paris Opera House. When he whipped his cloak off and became a young man again, I was absolutely stunned. I had completely believed he was an old man and it fascinated me to no end that someone could do that. It was magic.
From then on I always loved theater. Especially the magic feeling you get when you watch a musical live. Les Mis is my favorite.

I saw Phantom of the Opera when I was 15, and it was my first real show, and I was amazed... I started acting because I didn't like myself, and I wanted to be someone else... but I got over that, but found I was a pretty good actor, so stuck with it, cos I still enjoyed it.

Wow, I've never thought about this, really, let me think...

Hmm, it must've been when I discovered my lack of stage fright and my love of entertaining others. Which happened sophomore year in high school. These events led me to where I am today, an actor and lover of the arts. ;)

I've always loved theatre, we have a great drama program at my high school. Kids will come out of their district just so they can do the drama here! WEll once at high school I was able to grow on it and found i have a talent for it. We have the Elly awards (sacramento) like tony's they go to professional theatres ahd high schools under the educational catagory we were nominated (El Dorado HS) 13 times!!!! 5 people in each catagory and I was nominated twice for best leading actress in Arsenica and Old Lace and Noises Off! So I love acting one of the great things in the world!!!!!!!!

Amen Kilted! Very true!

What sparked my interest in theater? It would have to be a Rennasance play that I and many other kids put on for the entire school when we were in 7th grade. (Middle School)

Before that play I never wanted to act in front of people because I was afraid to. I was quite the shy type. But when I was up there performing, I just loved it so much! I really got into my part and my director praised me individualy about the good job I did.

Ever since then I've been trying to audition for as many plays as I can get my hands on. I just love to act now. :)

I've been a theatre guru for 7 years now and have never looked back, never wanted to either. I began by singing solos at our small church. Once I even sang over our full pipe organ all by my wee self. Then I got into the musicals and acting stuff in about 6th grade. But the thing that made me fall IN LOVE with theatre was tech.

I know, odd thing to say admist actors, but building things, moving things, lighting, sound. Making the wheels turn with none of the pressure and always having a chance to fix your mistake. It's invigorating. Esspecially since I'm now head of staff for my theatre, I've found out that nothing beats a day full of hard work other than an icecream sunday with no calories. ;)

What sparked my interest in Theater was the first time I heard the song "Music of the Night" from POTO

I'd been in little school plays before that, but wasn't moved until I hear Michael Crawford singing MotN on some news segment discussing POTO when it came out....I was TOTALLY intrigued!

no pressure in the Theatre?? i work backstage myself and i find theres just as much pressure on there as there is on stage.

Quite right especially if you are a stage hand, Because in between acts you have to move props like crazy so the audience does not have to wait very long!
I think both the actors and backstage feel the pressure.
