What service should I use to create a blog?

I am thinking of starting a blog. Most blogs show the newest entry at the top of the page. I want to do something different. I want an introductory entry that explains the purpose for the blog to be first and stay at the top of the blog even if I write other entries later, similar to a “Sticky” entry on a discussion forum page. I also want to be able to easily change the order of the posts. Also I'm wondering which is better - Wordpress or Blogspot. I want to keep track of Stats like search engine terms used.

Always worth paying a few pounds month for a self hosted domain using a Word Press site. so if your blog takes off you can turn it into an authority site.

Wordpress would probably be the way to go. If you wanted a sticky blog entry then you may have to make a custom template page so it appears automatically.

I currently use Wordpress which is very effective and allows a great deal of customisation thanks to a wide range of plugins, widgets, etc. It also allows full customisation of web pages through a handy script editor.
I too would recommend using your own domain name, possibly hosting as well. If you want to set any of these up I'm happy to help (I am a freelance web developer). If you want a hosting provider as well I can send you a link.

I'm a WordPress evangelist myself, but you don't need a special template for a sticky post. Any post in WP can be designated as "sticky" and remain at the top of your page.

I don't know why you'd want to re-order posts, as that is outside the scope of what a blog actually is, but you'd probably have to do that via post dates no matter what software you use.

(I also self-host using WP, but you can start with a blog at wordpress.com if you want to try it out before self-hosting.)

You can do both with WordPress. Just watch your themes and plugins, and keep up-to-date, always.

If I remember correctly, Tumblr has the option for a "sticky" post. There's also tons of ways that you can customize your blog on Tumblr as well!

Wordpress is always better but not as easy as blogspot. But I highly recommend you to use wordpress
