So the rest is an invitation back into Eden and a release from the curse of man to toil and work?It is the rest from all works. We can reap where we havent sown.....and without toiling in the ground.....similar to the when in eden. This rest is essentially an invitation back to eden....For those who are not too busy, working, to accept it. See the story of the fathers invitation to the feast...
The mosaic law tells us the rest too (4th commandment) does this law point to this rest or are they different?Rest from the Mosaic law , the 613 Mitzvot. He made the last sacrifice. Blessings.
Not a day of rest , a life of rest from the bondage of the law and the second death. The mosaic law tells us the rest too (4th commandment) does this law point to this rest or are they different?
Yes. Although it is very hard to believe. To enter the joys of heaven now, instead of some unknown time in the future? So the rest is an invitation back into Eden and a release from the curse of man to toil and work?
To rest from our self-righteous works of trying to maintain or obtain our right standing before God by what we do. To rest from a life of obedience and repentance to laws designed to modify our behavior and turn to a life of trust and dependence on the Holy Spirit to lead us in love. "There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his (Hebrews 4:9-10)." Grace and PeaceMat 11:28
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest
What is this rest that Christ offers?
This begs the question, what are "works"?To rest from our self-righteous works of trying to maintain or obtain our right standing before God by what we do. So if rest is Christ then what does it mean to rest in him. I'm not looking for more abstracts but what it actually means to you and me"I will give you rest..."
"Learn of me...and you shall find rest..."
Jesus is himself our rest.
See also: Psalms 37:7
Transcendent peace, that is inexpressible.
Philippians 4:
5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
So if rest is Christ then what does it mean to rest in him. I'm not looking for more abstracts but what it actually means to you and me
The work of God is to believe in Jesus Christ (John 6:29). God has prepared the work we do in advance for us to walk in (Ephesians 2:10). Therefore, works are whatever God leads us to do that involves sharing the Gospel with others. Grace and peace. This begs the question, what are "works"?
The rest that comes when we find the true treasure from heaven, no longer enslaved to and controlled or driven by the empty offerings and attractions of this world, the passions and possessions and pride that drive man to all kinds of wrong and selfish behavior, never satisfied.Mat 11:28
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest

Could Christ be offering both? Does he offer the etneral rest too?
Hmmm...I didn't think I had written in abstraction.
Obviously, trust and rest are very much related. Knowing who Christ is, what he's done for me, and why, being also firmly convinced that this knowledge is true, I find I can trust Christ completely. Such trust allows me to rest in him, confident that he will be for me what he has promised to be, and to do for me what he has promised to do. (2 Timothy 1:12)
often people stop at cliches like trust/rest in Jesus but without actually unpacking what trusting/resting in Jesus looks like. it matters to those who are struggling with unmet felt needs they desired to be met by Jesus but never really getting answers, to those the statement "trust in Jesus" becomes abstract because it's nothing something they can hold, see, hear, feel, taste or ultimately experience as long as they run on empty this continues to feel this way.
is this trust a blind trust then? a trust of surrender and letting go or a trust of denying self to follow him.
What are works? This may seem like a silly question but all kinds of people agree with "faith and works" but may define works differently. As a child I understood works as going to church, praying, giving offering and things like that but sometimes these things seem made up (or slowly absorbed into works). But what did James mean when he spoke of works?I would add. The law of faith must be applied. (Philippians 2:13-14) This law is that faith is a work .They cannot be separated .
it is the goal of the father of lies that it as one work . . faith and works be separate. . Dividing that which he calls one. . and brings together that which God calls separate .
It can be seen in creation .Our Faithfull Creator by a work of his faith (the plan) exercise or work out his will empower things that were not there and it was good. the elements or work of his faith
Trust is a work of faith, Christ's labor of love working in us causing us to surrender while empowering us to perform the good pleasure of His name.
If a person tries to separate the moving of the Spirit ( the hearing of faith )from the empowering (to do) then they are offering "dead works".
The work of Faith (his) that works in us is both to will to hear and to empowered to do the good pleasure. And this will we do, if God the one with power permits or moves a person to do His will .
Hebrews 6 King James Version (KJV) Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this will we do, if God permit. For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame
Pardon me for piping into this conversation, but I see something that I think needs to be addressed. You seem to want to avoid abstracts like "trust," but "surrender," "letting go" and "denying self" are more abstract than the term "trust." Trust is so universally experienced, that it almost needs no explanation to describe it. Even a small child can be persuaded to trust someone merely by using the term, and it seems that the term doesn't even need a dictionary definition to understand it. But the terms "surrender," "letting go," and "denying self" are figures of speech and need a well-understood context in order to understand what those terms mean.often people stop at cliches like trust/rest in Jesus but without actually unpacking what trusting/resting in Jesus looks like. it matters to those who are struggling with unmet felt needs they desired to be met by Jesus but never really getting answers, to those the statement "trust in Jesus" becomes abstract because it's nothing something they can hold, see, hear, feel, taste or ultimately experience as long as they run on empty this continues to feel this way.
