  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What Prevents Orthodox Jews From Recognizing Jesus As Messiah?

I read through this thread. Unless I missed a post, there were no posts from those of the Jewish faith.

Here is one link to the Jewish view of Messiah.

Moshiach - the Jewish Messiah

If you really want to know what the Jews believe and why they believe Jesus is not the Messiah, I would recommend reading a number of Jewish sources.

Some Jewish objections are very simple, such as:

Holy Scripture that states that God is not a man or a son of man (Numbers 23:19.) Jesus is both man and God, and son of man.

There are a many objections based on TORAH.

I'm trying to recall some of the main reasons Jews object to Jesus. I read some books by Jewish authors years ago.

Another objection has to do with sacrifice. In Hosea 6:6, God said that He desires Mercy, not sacrifice, and the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings. Jesus Himself spoke of "Mercy, not sacrifice" in Matthew 9:13 and Matthew 12:7.

I remember reading in one book something like this and I'm paraphrasing, If God is God and He makes the rules why does anyone or anything have to die for the forgiveness of sins. The means of forgiveness is entirely up to God.

In Isaiah Chapter 1, God speaks of the burden of the animal sacrifices done in vain.

God tells Israel what He wants from them, instead of sacrifice:

Isaiah Chapter 1:
16 Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean;
remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes;
cease to do evil,
17 learn to do good;
seek justice,
correct oppression;
bring justice to the fatherless,
plead the widow's cause.
