What place does the topic of "Mary" have under the broad topic of theology? What place does a mortal have in the realm of theology? Theology is the study of God, what place does Marilogy heve here?
Excellent point.

Well your protestant brethren kept on starting Mariology threads in GT. I guess you can blame it on them.

My speculation is that many do not have an orthodox(Not "O"rthodox.) christian understanding of the incarnation. That what it comes to do in my IMHO.

I notice nobody objected to the hamartiology section -- and "sin" is, on anybody reasonable's standards, much farther removed from God than Mary the mother of Jesus.

I would see that a reasonable topic for the Mariology forum would be, "What role, if any, did or does Mary the mother of Jesus play in the working out of the divine plan of redemption, salvation, and sanctification?"

What happened was they were tired of all the infighting that was taking place over in the General Theology Forum about this subject and the myriads of threads made all the time, so they created a section specifically to deal with it. This way now GT does not get bogged down and littered with threads over the same repetitive subject and so other things may get accomplished there.

Personally I do not think we should have a need for this section at all because I believe that we should be able to talk about our differences of opinion and beliefs respectfully, however, that has not been the case with this subject.

So they had to devote a whole forum to it and waste precious time and resources of mods superviors and admins to take care of this place because we as Christians could not act like Christians in the first place. That is why you see this section here.

General Theology had come to a standstill as no other topics were even able to filter up to the top - sort of negating the purpose of the forum.

The topic was moved to this forum so 1) discussion could begin again in GT and 2) so that the topic would be easier to manage.

One thing that can be said about cyberspace is that there is lots of room, why not make your own thread and you can discuss it all you like?

But this thread has a different subject

Yet Mary is not divine so discussing her in a theology area is like speaking of cars in a thrology area.

There is a use for having a section for Mariology, since the same topics were getting brought up time after time on the GT board.

Here at least we can keep one thread going per Mary topic, people can read the whole thing, and we don't have to keep repeating everything quite so much.

Yet why in a theology section? Theology is the study of God not the study of humans. I don't even think LDS place the study of Mr Smith in thier theology areas.

Theology may literally mean "study of God" but in common language, it means study of religion.

And issues surrounding the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM for short) are very important to Christian theology, both in the common sense and in the literal one.

Yet Mary is not divine so discussing her in a theology area is like speaking of cars in a thrology area.
It is also not part of our teachings that Mary is Divine and most threads that went up about Mary were started by Protestants not understanding that we do not see her as Divine either.

The study of the nature of God and religious truth; rational inquiry into religious questions.
A system or school of opinions concerning God and religious questions: Protestant theology; Jewish theology.

Theology is more than just the study of God Himself but also the study of religious Truths and answers to religious questions. This would include doctrine and Dogma.

Also this thread is better suited for the DR section of the board than here if you wish to question it's very existence.

That has to do with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, not Mary.
So I guess Jesus magically appeared here on earth in the form of man with no help whatsoever? And then if it had nothing to do with Mary then why is Mary's role in his birth so prominent to begin with?
