What Kind of OS are you using?

for learning linux you could always try and join a message board www.justlinux.com www.linuxquestions.org , that's how I learned easily when I get stuck.

I really enjoyed the Knoppix. I am seriously thinking of using a second hard drive or a partition anyway to dual boot. Of course this is an area that I have no experience so...

is it really work with a system that just have 512 MB of main memory for running windows xp pro as a parent window and fedora core 2 as a child window?

I use Knoppix 3.6 HD install.
Excellent excellent OS. I would use debian if I could install the drivers right, lol.

Glad to know I'm not the only person who has struggled with Debian.

I have an acquantance who will ONLY use Debian and totally spurns the GUI. Then again, he's a driver freak, live's in his Mum's garage and crawls out of bed at the crack of lunch after a heavy cracking session. I have him working on a HDD recovery at the moment. His emails to me all have some ungodly hour timestamped on them.

I am using windows XP proffessional.
Also have used linux which does seem to be more stable but offers less support for applications.

Same cd mate. Boot up the cd and when you get to the desktop get into the root (click the little penguin ) and type knoppix-installer and hit enter and it will start the set-up process.

But on Tech Tv, I saw this thing, it was on a Linux Computer I think, not sure, but it was a program, that showed a cub on a black screen, and every side of the cube was a different OS. So you could switch programs between Mac, Linux, and Windows idk it's wierd. I thought it was cool, because they just hit this comandand then click left or right, and it switched between OSs. The other thing was this program that combines screens, so that you get different OSs on different screens. Then you just drag the mouse and it fluently goes between screens so you can copy and paste on two different computers basicaly. I'll have to go to their techtv website and see if I can find what they are called, but yeah they look awesome.

Don't think so. I tried Virtual PC for a bit, then went back to VMWare.

What am I running? Windows Server 2003 Standard at work, XP SP2 at home with all the extras [Disable all non-essential servers, install Sygate Firewall, AVG antivirus, Ad-Aware, S&D] - running like a dream. Have VMWare for a FreeBSD install - still the safest way to learn an OS.

Did have dual os, xp and mandrake 9.2, currently just mandrake 9.2 .. trying to convince myself to switch to a different distro because I haven't had much luck with mandrake...

Win 98 & 2000 combined, and 2000 or XP oin my job!

I have to say that Win2000 is the most stable OS of them all, even if one would expect the newer XP to be that... also on LAN:s the 2000 have worked better here than XP!

Thanks I am going to do this for sure. Linux has come a long way in my opinion from when i first checked it out a few years ago.

I use Windows XP, myself. I'm not sure which edition of XP, though.

I use XP primarily. However I have a virtual machine on my computer and I can add an additional 4 operating systems to my machine. I use the VM to play around with linux, 2000 server, and a few other systems. It's an easier way to multifunction and it doesn't take up much space.
