I'm Antiochian, too.

The Romanians, Bulgarians and Macedonians in this country are part of the OCA, arent they? Archbishop Kyrill is OCA bishop of Pittsburgh (GO STEELERS!) and Bulgarian Bishop of Toledo (GO ROCKETS!).

That's interesting, Michael. I didn't know OCA had a "Macedonian Diocese" - at least their site doesn't list any.

What's more interesting is that the Macedonian Orthodox Church in Europe is not recognized by any other churches because it's considered a phyletist group.

Anyway, if in the US they've come under OCA their canonicity is undisputed.

Argh, the whole 'rocor is schismatic because they aren't in communion with oca' arguement. I had a pretty good debate the other day at the monastery about ROCOR. They aren't going to be 'schismatic' (if you can call them such) for very long - reunification talks with mospat officially begin in september.

I personaly don't consider them to be schismatic, and neither does my spiritual Father. and our parish is on good terms with the ROCOR Church about 30 min away from us (Mainly because our Bishop ordained the father of the current priest there). But there are some persons in ROCOR that would rather die than be in communion with "Sergianist Heretics". The current talks between Mospat and ROCOR have me hopeful, but I know this will not be a quick thing. The enemy has his hands in a lot of places.

OCA - Geek Orthodox Subjurisdiction :D

Our motto - Why Schism when we can just Push onto the stack and run in our own user space.
Oblio, could you explain this to me? I just don't understand. Is this a negative remark about OCA? or just a joke?

I am to be chrismated in the OCA church. This is what is available to me locally (both the church in the city that I live in which I am not attending and the one I attend in the next town over off the highway.)

Oh dear :sorry:

It is a Geek joke, I love the OCA. I could get even worse and talk about spawning a new jursidiction and such but that would lead us into further Geekdom :D

:ahem:

It all has to do with the intricacies of assembly language programming and the process to execute a subroutine while keeping your place from whence you left (The Stack in some archtectures)

There are also interesting analogies to reality in the book Godel, Escher & Bach by Douglass Hoefschtater (sp ?)

:sorry: - But you did ask ;)

Hey...I know that dread screen...I get it at work too (ALL the time)....it even called me on a corrupt application a few times.
Were you able to get the application to repent and adhere to holiness of life thereafter? :sorry:

I said that this thread was embarrassing because of the bickering and petty jurisdictional debates in the first few pages of the Thread. Let me ask this.... does any seriously think that ROCOR is perhaps less Orthodox than the rest? Even after they "broke off" from the Russian Patriarch? Can we as Orthodox really act as if canonicity is that black and white? Think about it. ROCOR (for example) is in communion with Serbian Orthodox (officially) but not with most (or any?) other Jurisdictions which ARE in communion with the Serbian Church. The OCA is only recognized officially by the Russian Patriarch (at least at the beginning) and the Oecumenical Patriarch hasn't said anything about us (unless he has recently). Blah blah blah... I myself have always been throughly confused with all of this jurisdictional mess (some of it our fault, some of it just due to painful and inevitable political realities). This "mess" used to be a great stumbling block for me when I first became Orthodox. Now, I just don't care. ROCOR is Orthodox, OCA is, Russian is etc. Heck, I see the Copts and Ethiopians as our Brothers and Sisters but perhaps that's another thread for another time. :)

BTW, some one referred to Monachos, net (of which I am a member) as a ROCOR Forum. There are a lot of ROCOR in it (most of which do not fit the stereotype many of us have) but it is actually independant and the Moderator (Matthew Steenberg) is under the Russian Patriarch and actually works a lot with the well known Diokleia (the hybrid Greek-Russian Jursidiction of which Bishop Kallistos Ware is a part of). Just a little tidbit of information.

I consider myself honorary ACROD James. The closest established parish to us is in that jurisdiction and we have a friend that goes there. We also have a funny sitution at our parish, we have a Khouria and a Matushka. An ACROD priest and his wife just moved to our area a little while ago because he became an interim at a parish about an hour and a half a way, but his wife grew up around were we live so they decided to move where she could work. He commutes to church, but she goes to ours so the kids can go to Sunday school (there's no kids where he's serving) and because it's about five minutes from where they live.

I think the Antiochians and ACROD also jointly run something out in Western Pa.
