• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is your philosophy of life?

I like the selfish gene interpretation. My life (lived history from birth to death) is only here because of its potential survival value, my life is a survival machine. From that I can infer that if I do not try to survive, probably I am rubbing up against my nature the wrong way.

perhaps what was meant is that God is the Alpha and the Omega as it is written that He is.

Or... he is that He is (tetragrammaton), his essence involves existence. As a footnote the ontological argument (of St Anselm) tries to infer that...A perfect being must exist, else it would lack perfection. That perfect being we call God.

For me the value of being, of a living human being knowing itself to exist, is not reducible to one of the parts of experience like happiness or ataraxia. Rather in the synthetic totality of a situation, of an experienced flow of being and becoming, has a value to which such things contribute but do not entirely constitute. The contributory factors are perhaps uncountable, but the resultant value is holistically emergent or summative rather than reduced to a particular element in the equation. And the fact that there is for example some non happiness in the equation e.g. a book or a tree, or abstract thought, can add to the value of the 'gestalt of being' rather than subtract from it.

That is well put.
