What is your opinion on the use of emotional closing songs?

Most contemporary churches have a closing song at the end of the sermon to give the church a chance respond or pray. There is usually a prayer team standing in the altar while the band is playing music if one wants to get prayed over. In more traditional Pentecostal churches, the pastor either closes in prayer or gives an altar call.

Here is one song we use during closing time.

An emotional song isn't going to manipulate a person to respond to an alter call unless he already feels touched. They are emotional to people whom they mean something. People who are not open to Jesus won't be affected. I think the songs are appropriate for that moment. What else would you like to hear?

I have always felt, the music was a manipulative tool of the Pastor in order to get people to the front.

Does the Pastor choose just what is going to be played, or is it a spontaneous representation of the Holy Spirit in action.

The purpose of the music getting people forward would be, to show how effective his sermon had been.

The pastor of any Church knows how many people are there who do not know the Lord, he sees them every week, he also know those who go forward every week and nothing in their lives ever changes, it has turned into a Ritual a Tradition without meaning, but it really looks spiritual, with a bunch of people up front after a Service.

I guess that sounds cynical, but I just don't care for Churchy-ness

What music was played at the end of the Sermon on the Mount?

I don't think dead silence encourages anyone to come to the front and is more likely to be read that it is time to go home or make someone feel like every one is watching him. In order for huge numbers of people to come forward, you would have to have a room full of people who don't know Christ but since this is church, I am going to assume the majority in that room have already done the walk. I think the music is really for the Christians to put them in a praying frame of mind and to be patient while a few people do come forward
