Had to be Space Invaders for Atari, that started it for almost every gaming Baby Boomer I know! Then it would be Mario Brothers and Legend Of Zelda on Ninetendo, and Donkey Kong,Burger Time and Dungeons and Dragons on Intellevision.

We had every game system that came out from Pong through Super NES until my late hubby got fed up with them becoming obsolete every couple years and the cost of the games and we switched to PC. Only my son stayed into consoles. He went through Nintendo 64 and PS2,and that's as far as he has gone now.

That game is not the black sheep of Zelda, unless you consider the three games which shall not be named to not even be sheep...
the cdi Zeldas don't count, zelda 2 was consider the black sheep of the zelda games people hated it because it was too hard and different from the first game at the time, see how the other zelda games look and play just like the first game now compare it to the zelda 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxxbT5uCVT8&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1W1ifRbp7o&feature=PlayList&p=06AE90476FC6C622&index=4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yekAGlBCFsE&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3lFFZn8U0Y&feature=related

I've played nearly every Zelda game out there except:

Twilight Princess (waiting for the price to drop)
The 3 CGI games, though I do them far to much honor by putting them on this list.
Links Awakening DX (I played the original gameboy one).

I agree that 2 was quite different, its very play style went from top down to sidescroller.

I'm just saying, that difference isn't anything compared to what I have seen of the 3 CGI games.

My most memorable game that caused me to play video games? The "early" game that most greatly influenced my future tastes would have to be Phantasy Star on the master system.

It wasn't my first, but it led me down the road of discovering my preferences.

Like everybody else, it was that little golden NES game that got me hooked.

I remember when I was a kid how freaking hard it felt, then I downloaded it on the Wii Virtual Console and beat it in like 4 hours. Either I've gotten awesome at games or I was a very stupid kid.

Other games that rocked my world?

Secret of Mana, SNES
Zelda, SNES
Faxanadu, NES
Star Voyager, NES

Yup I'm a dork. Point and laugh.
