to respond to the original question, i would say that there are a few games that really consumed my teenager years (THPS2, Mega Man X, C&C Red Alert 2) but the game that really got me really into it all was Mega Man 4! Holy Tofu that game is AWESOME!!!

Then I was a Sega fanboy throughout the console wars.
