  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is your favorite holiday?

Halloween. While not an 'official holiday,' I enjoy it because it kicks off the fall season...which is my favorite season of all. :)

I certainly like the fall colors around the end of October. Not so keen on some of the Halloween stuff, although I like the idea of pumpkin carving competitions; I saw a video of one. :)

My wife loves pumpkin flavored muffins.

We put a whole new twist in our church on Halloween. On that night, the church families do a Harvest Dinner where more than 120 people show up. We take up a collection and all the money goes to some worthy cause, last year all the money went to our Youth Ministry.

Interesting; I guess some churches would also have pumpkin suppers.

When you think about what gets harvested at the end of summer and into the fall, you will find all the fresh veggies and some fruits as well as ham and turkey. So you will find blueberries, pumpkin, corn, potato, tomatoes, and the list just goes on and on and on.

My problem with the idea of a harvest festival is that Cain's offering (the fruit of his labors on the land) was rejected, while Abel's was accepted.

But I do like the Fall as a season. And my wife does find pumpkins tasty; I do as well, to some extent.

This is a year where I can honestly say that I am so looking forward to New Years as I can say that is another year behind us and here is to better times ahead.

This has been a rough year for my Mom with two heart attacks, one surgery, my father-in-law having a heart attack, my daughter being in and out of the hospital for the first four months of the year for a colon related issue. Having somebody do a hit and run on my truck costing several thousand dollars worth of damage and finding out exactly what insurance won't cover and having to learn that one the hard way and now updating it so to prevent such problems in the future.

I can say this, thank you Lord for all the youth programs I am involved with because they have provided a steady distraction from all of life's problems this year.
