Sadly, there's so frustratingly little information on their ancient society. I agree though, I'm fascinated by their ancient culture.

[ignoringpastmode] Which books have you read??? I don't think there is really that much of a lack of info. Most written sources are Roman or Greek and somewhat discredible but have bases in fact and there is much archaeological evidence...[\ignoringpastmode]

The Roman legions would have ground the Celts into the dust.

Ummm, they did, but not until after Brennus sacked Rome and owned the Romans. I like to tell peoplr that Brennus led the Senones, only ONE Celtic tribe, to do this

I like all of the Germanic civs, because it was they who brought Rome to it's knees, but I'm gonna have to go with the Vikings, as they were great warriors, traders, and they kept good hygiene, something u didnt see much in those days.

Well, I suppose that is true as well. But Come on, the Germanic Tribes didn't even use elephants or much organization for that matter, and they still sacked Rome. I mean, either the Germans were REAL good at what they did, or ROme really had started slacking off.

The Celts had great hygene. They are even credited with the invention of soap! What's cleaner than that?

Ya, I've also heard that the Vikings were cleaner and were thought to be very attractive by european women, because they combed their hair and changed clothes every day and they would wash every week or so, which was more than the every year or so most european men, hahahaha. Actually, as for the medieval knights thing (which u r right, they do rock), it was the early germanic warrior code that started the chivalric knights. Their elite warriors were noblemen and trained from childhood, much like knights. I'm not too sure as to whether or not they had the same code, but they did have a "chivalrous" code of ethics, as these were the upperclass guys. The Teutonic Knights were some of the first true knights to come into play. Dang, don't you just love Germanic Barbarians?

I've been looking into an ancient Germanic Tribe called the Alamanni (All Men.) That occupied a fairly decent sized chunk of land in the direct center of Western Europe. They were a collection of small relatively insignicent collection of groups who managed to band together and become a formidable threat to the Roman Empire.

I would have to go with pre-christian celtic and germanic peoples/culture.

I think on the whole, they may have lacked the technology of the greeks and romans, but they were far way more civilized. Thier society was more fair with more equality than just about anything up to and including the current day.

In my reading, I have often found that history belongs to the victors, and often the victors were victors because they were more ruthless, barbaric and uncivilized than the peoples they conqured.

I think ability to wage war is a very poor measure of civilized a people are.
The romans were able to beat the celts because the celts had discovered that large scale warfare was harmful. Their tradition dictated that armies numbered 300 men, and disputes between kingdoms were often settled with a one-on-one confrontation between champions. It's little wonder they didn't fair well against the legions.

Once were a people who outlived the cycle of the universe who lived in a pressurized atmosphere where it never rained but the dew was thick from the oceans of water that hung in the atmosphere. They lived great years, years and cycles that turned at 500 years. They lived and watched the 18 and a half cycle of the moon so many times that they could put a hair on a stick and tell you when the moon would line up to that hair 18 and a half years later. They watched Orion cycle every year, the great hunter who was resurected and became the first Messiah when Nimrod was reborn and became Tammuz. The pyramids and a hundred thousand Myan and Yuchatan pyramids and temples testify to the same resurection of the sun and of Nimrod.

Every ancient testimoney still exstant today tells of the constallations and the sun.All nations under heaven have one thing in common at the worship of the sun and of Tammuz.

But there was a people and a family that effected the entire world and every nation throughout all futuistic history and that is the family of Noah.Noah was the grandfather of Nimrod and today we still choose Nimrod the builder of Babylon and the Person of Orion the great hunter in the flesh,The same is Baal the sun G-d.Nimrod died but when his mother/wife became pregnant again after his death, she named her new child Tammuz, the resurected Nimrod who descended from Orion after death just like the Pyramids point to.Nimrod was worshipped by the house of Israel as being the Messiah because of his resurection and that religion has dominated society for 6000 years and it is absolutely irrefutable.Today when one celebrates Christ-mass,Ishtar,valentines day, halloween, they are celebrating Tammuz the resurected Nimrod. This is a fact of life that is also irrefutable, you can say it's about Jesus but these rituals predate Jesus by thousands of years and are carved into structures built all over the world.Tammuz cannot be denied as being the first resurected Messiah. You find him in the book of the dead in the ancient Egyptian scrolls called Osirus wich means takin from the water, just like Noah, just like Moses, that's why the egyptians called Moses Osirus because Moses was takin from the water from an ark.Osirus is cast upon the waters on the 17th day of the second month as recorded in the book of the dead concerning the sons of God.Osirus is cast on the waters in his coffin.Noah goes into the ark{coffin} on the 17th day of the second month. Both Noah and Osirus stay in the wood for the same amount of days. Then Osius is buried and an everygreen springs up on his grave with presents to men.Meaning that the stalk was cut but the tree kept growing. The branch from heaven kept the tree alive, thats why in the winter when the leaves fall, you find misteltoe at the top of trees in a cluster living where other leaves died and fell, the branch from heaven. All the while in the winter only is Orin the great hunter coming up where the sun comes up in the east and Orion sets in the west,Orion and venus,They both Rival the sun

I've always loved studying the feudal Japanese. The ideology that emegered from that time period was so astounding, while it had its flaws it definitely had amazing qualities some of which mirrored the growing Christian view point in Europe (even though most missionaries weren't allowed access to Japan at the time)
