I'm going to go with Egypt and ultimately it came down to one reason for me - Giza. All the others are interesting, but when Alexander and Julius Caesar viewed the pyramids... they were already ancient.

Actually kurabrhm, I am a gal ;) but that's ok! Why do you consider the Indian civilization to be one of the best? Do you have any opinions as to why? I would have included a lot more civilizations in the list but Christian Forums only allows a maximum of 10 poll choices.

My favorite ancient civilization would have to be Ancient Rome. I have always had this huge fascination with Ancient Rome. But then again, I have a huge fascination with ALL ancient civilizations! :)

Well i guess i have to stick up for india cos i come from there! personally i think indian history got a lot more interesting when the british arrived and started working with the indians as well as, sadly, exploiting them. the thing that's most fascinating about ancient india is that it served as a cultural cross roads between the west (middle east etc) and the far east (china and south east asia). so especially in north india you find evidence of islamic heritage such as the taj mahal, for instance, which is one of the seven wonders of the world.
also the capital delhi is another interesting example of the foreign influences that have come into india long long before the europeans arrived.

Ancient Israel is most interesting to me because it has survived as a people and culture into modern times. The others have passed into the ash heap of history even though their technology and government was by far greater than Israel's.
Israel stands as a testament to God's faithfulness to His people if they trust Him.
Most of the civilizations mentioned in this poll had invaded and opressed Israel for hundreds of years yet God sustained His chosen.
Today Israel, though it's government is different than in ancient times, still envokes amazement at God's providence upon that nation.
Incredible, simply incredible.

My favorite ancient civilizations are Republican Rome, Hellenistic Greece, and the Alþingi traditions of the Norse.

I find all of these civilizations interesting because of their accentuation and development of libertarian civics, republican virtues, science, and law. In the Western Tradition, the majority of the sciences, legal traditions, and forms of governance originate within those three civilizations.

Haa, teek bolo Bhai! Indian civilization is often easily overlooked, which is really sad. It is the oldest civilization in the world, older than Egypt, older than Sumer. It has seen the rise and fall of other civilizations like Greece, even China is not as old, though more continuous. Indian influence spread from Japan to Cambodia to Rome. Most of the ancient mathematical and scientific achievements came from India... concepts of both zero and infinity, decimals, algebra, trig, calculus, metallurgy, chemistry, just to name a few. Four of the world's religions come from India - Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism.

The world's oldest university was in India. It was Takshila in 700 BC. More than 10,500 students from all over the world studied more than 60 subjects. The campus accommodated 10,500 students who came from as far as Babylonia, Greece, Syria, Arabia, and China and offered over sixty different courses in various fields, such as science, mathematics, medicine, politics, warfare, astrology, astronomy, music, religion, and philosophy.

For most of the world's history, India was the richest, most powerful nation in the world. Just about every scientific discovery made by the Greeks or the Chinese was made before by the Indians. Militarily, India was one of the first nations to use tactics, divisions, and formations. Even martial arts came from India and entered the rest of Asia through Buddhism.

Rome, because much of the Church's culture is based upon it. Especially mine (high church Episcopal) and the Catholic faith. Remember all the Protestant Churches have their roots in Rome, the capital of the old Roman Empire. Besides, Latin rocks!!!

After studying both cultures, Ancient Egypt & Ancient Israel, Ancient Israel wins hands down!

There are great wonders in Egypt such as the pyramids, but there are always new startling finds in Israel like the Dead Sea Scrolls & the James Osuary.

James' Ossuary was a fake. Dead Sea Scrolls were a fascinating find though.
