Revelation 22:18 most certainly does not tell us that it is a stand alone book. That is your interpretation of the meaning of these words, but that is not what they say.

No interpretation of any part of scripture is correct if it contradicts any other part of scripture. And your interpretation of this part of scripture explicitly contradicts another scripture, which is "We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost" (2 Peter 1:19-21)

Here the Holy Spirit expressly states that no prophecy of the scripture can be interpreted privately, that is, in the absence of any other prophecy, because these prophecies did not come by the will of men, but "holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."

Your totally wrong here, this book was written as a separate book ,has nothing to do with peter, he probably did not even know of its's existence. To stand alone ,It has its own structure ,and do's ,and the book ,makes sense as a book by it self.Sorry.

Several weeks ago, I had a few exchanges with another guy who was claiming to receive direct revelation from God.

I pointed out that such claims bring the necessary implication that his posts have canonical authority, and that as they come from God to him for us, that his posts are normative for the faith and practice of God's people in all ages.

I told this person that the last I had heard, the church had not yet admitted his posts to the canon of Scripture. I also suggested that if he continued to make claims of immediate, divine revelation, we have the option of going to the moderators and asking for a ruling that such posts be restricted to the unorthodox board on the ground that it is heretical.

Several years ago, we had a guy on here who insisted that he was one of the two witnesses referenced in Re 11. He was telling us about his plans to travel to eretz Ysra'el, where he would in time be murdered for his witness. He was quite specific. He even had the date, and told us to be sure to watch for it on TV.

I informed the first member (the conversation that is several weeks old) about this, and added that aside from the standards used to determine which books were canonical, we really have no way to distinguish his posts from those of the 'witness' several years ago. And guess what!

The same applies to you!

If you're going to claim to receive messages from God for the rest of us, you can expect your words to be subjected to the same scrutiny as were the rest of the canonical writings. If the church used one set of standards to admit into the canon the works of Moses and Obadiah, Mark and Jude, why should we apply different standards to your 'revelations?'

Remember--its your decision. If you make the claim, you face the consequences. We don't stone people (literally at any rate), but false prophets are certainly subject to censure and excommunication.
