My l little parish used to be larger then the Priest retired or moved (not sure which) and they went too long without a Priest. By the time a Priest was found, the parish was down to 10 or so people and even they were not "regulars". (They had a visiting Priest who came once or twice a month and reader services the rest of the time.) Now we have really grown with our new Priest.

Therefore, I conclude that we really need more Priests!

More Priests could lead to more mission churches.
Whenever my priest goes on vacation or is on Church business, the attendance for Sunday drops. Now he just stops telling people when he will be gone *jk*. Priest are so necessary for the spiritual development and growth of the community.

Speaking of growth, our parish is going to have more than a handful of new parishioners in the next 6-9 months. The parish is currently expecting about 6 new ones within about a month or so from each other. I think they should have one big baptism party. The priest sure will be busy.

I've never understood what a parish is.... it's a new term for me. Sorry for all of my ignorance. :p

When I use the term I mean the actual church building and people that attend the DL with me.

Since we use the term the The Church often, I don't like to say "my church" when referring to the place I actually attend services at and say "parish" instead. Then when I say the Church... it then refers to the Orthodox Church in a larger sense.

Our local GOARCH church has a priest who rotates between our city (Fond du Lac) and Sheboygan, in the next county. Attendance is pretty small, making me wonder sometimes if the church will keep going if I do convert. (My last church was going strong, then puttered out and died.)

I would say that jurisdictionalism is the problem with the church.

What causes jurisdictionalism? Arrogance!

Certainly there is a better way to communicate! We can have disagreements without resorting to calling each other heretics. The most overused word in Orthodoxy.
