  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Cocaine is a short buzz drug that is expensive. It’s about the last thing economically depressed people would have turned towards, in those pre-crack cocaine days. What you saw instead was a huge rise in alcoholism, a much cheaper drug.

As for gangs, you must be forgetting that prohibition was still in place when the Great Depression started. Gangs were very much surging, and continued strongly after prohibition was lifted and the Great Depression continued.

Neither claim is supported by stats.

Thousands upon thousands from Central America travel the length of Mexico fleeing violence.

Why don’t they find sanctuary and help in Mexico?

Because the (allegedly) greatest nation in the history of the world is just a little further north.

Why come so far only to settle for second-best?

If it is alleged, why come? Why not illegally stay in Mexico, where the culture and language is very much the same?

Why don’t they find sanctuary and help in Mexico?

A (few) do stay in Mexico.
But, their goal is to get into America.
Sanctuary cities are protecting them.
Free money flows like honey.

They care not about the ones they are cutting in front of that have waited in line for years to come here the proper way. They have no respect for our laws.

If anyone watches a couple programs of Border Wars they will understand we need to build two walls.

Mexico is more like 10th best.

Border Town of Tijuana usually has about 1,000 killings each year. And their crime flows over the border. The Mexican Mafia has a strong foothold in San Diego and throughout the United States.

If it is alleged, why come?

Because they believe it. What did you think "alleged" means?

Why not illegally stay in Mexico, where the culture and language is very much the same?

I thought you were talking about refugees, not illegals?

Because after a thousand miles, they have only to cross one more border for what they believe to be the best opportunity for a good life. Why not go for it?

If they're refugees, they apply for asylum; if they're illegal, they try to sneak across. Worst case scenario, they get denied (if refugees), or caught (if illegal), and where do they end up? Mexico.

You can look up the phrase, "nothing to lose," for a more detailed analysis of their thought process here.

And yet they stay. They get food, shelter, medical, schooling. All paid for byvyou and I.

So what is alleged?

All the more incentive for the immigrants/refugees/whatever to keep coming north... don't you think?

Gosh, it's almost as though they don't get jobs or anything...

But wait, I thought the argument was that they were taking jobs away from you and I... so which is it?

So what is alleged?

That we're the greatest nation in the history of the world.

Here, let me help you:

  • Allege: suppose or affirm to be the case.
    • "the first artifact ever alleged to be from Earhart's aircraft"

And you intend to achieve this cull how exactly?

Through education.
Reduce immigration quotas.
Deport all illegals.
Encourage small family size.
Free birth control means.

Lowering our population would mean more of the wealth for each person. We have too many people.

What a truly strange idea. It is as if there is a pile of wealth to be divided. People PRODUCE wealth.

I've been watching the excellent TV series 1968 (4 parts). The US changed that year. And we haven't changed all that much since then. There were 3 political groups then: the mainstream Democrats, the mainstream Republicans, and the Wallace folk. In 2016, Trump appealed to many of the same people as Wallace.
As an aside, Wallace would have done much, much better (and perhaps won) if he hadn't chosen a truly terrible VP candidate in LeMay (who strongly advocated the use of nuclear weapons).

Why do we want to sustain our population numbers?

...to fill labor demand.

The problem, IMO, is not too many people. Rather, our workforce skills are not aligned with the needs of our employers.

The idea of America being full is absolutely laughable. You have vast amounts of space with hardly anyone living there. All it actually means is some people think they should be allowed to have large tracts of empty land just for themselves and their family. It has absolutely nothing to do with any actual shortage of anything.
