It can not be defined. Worship just is surrendering ourselves to God. It could be with music, in prayer or in contemplation. What is Christian worship?
I agree music especially singing, prayer, and contemplative communion with God can be worship. It can not be defined. Worship just is surrendering ourselves to God. It could be with music, in prayer or in contemplation.
Amen to that. What is your definition of worship? Or should we wait for more responses from forum members before you give your response?I agree music especially singing, prayer, and contemplative communion with God can be worship.
Worship = worth - ship. We give God his worth. What is Christian worship?
How can a creature give God his worth?Worship = worth - ship. We give God his worth.
What is Christian worship?
Everytime we speak of Him ,think of Him or meditate on Him , we worship Him.What is Christian worship?
We're not going to be able to worship him perfectly; we are human and he is so much greater than we can ever imagine. How can a creature give God his worth?
Offering up obedience to a commandment of man is considered "van worship", but it seems to me, offering up obedience to one of God's commands, would be righteous worship. What is Christian worship?
Why did you say one of God's commandments?it seems to me, offering up obedience to one of God's commands, would be righteous worship.
"A command" would work. A general definition of "righteous worship", seems to be, "offering up to God obedience to His commands". If you wash the dishes (serving others) out of your Love for God and not some carnal purpose, you could offer that obedience to him as worship, since it is His command. Why did you say one of God's commandments?
The way to worship/bring glory to God is by testifying about His character traits by being doers of them in obedience to the Mosaic Law. For example, by being doers of good works in obedience to the Mosaic Law, we are testifying about God's goodness, which is why our good works bring glory to Him (Matthew 5:16), and by testifying about God's goodness, we are also expressing the belief that He is good, or in other words, we are believing in Him, and the same is true for God's other character traits. What is Christian worship?

Doing what God created you to do, and obeying God.What is Christian worship?
26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
I get depressed and wish I'd never been created when I think of most people's ideas that we were all created just to stroke God's ego for all eternity telling Him how great He is for some.. attention starved all powerful narcissist.Christian worship essentially means keeping our mind on God.
As someone who doesn't always like God (for personal reasons which no doubt sound ridiculous in the divine court) I sometimes wonder about this question myself.
Is God so narcissistic that He needs our praise?
The answer is "No". God doesn't need anything - He's the one and only Being who is entirely self sufficient. We depend on Him.
He doesn't need us or our praise. But He wants our mind on Him. Atheists might think that God is insecure and demands worship, but that's because their "God" is nothing more than an intellectual construct, an idea. Who is going to worship something that turns out to be an intellectual puff of smoke?
Christ said "No man can serve two masters." Worship then is a means of keeping our mind on Our Master, the One to whom we will all give an account of our lives. We will serve Him or we will serve something else. In the end we will find out there is nothing else. The sum zero energy universe gives us a hint of that.
Along a similar line it seems some Catholics might go to a megachurch and be impressed with the emotional and powerful music, and fall away from their own faith. Now for one thing if God needs music He won't ask us for it - He'll have His own band, mixer and headphones to be facetious.
The question is one of Truth. How does God want to be worshipped? It's encapsuated in Christ's words "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life ....No man goes to the Father but through Me" and "If you do not eat my flesh and drink my blood, you have no part in me".
Communion is central, and all the other things - music, creeds, prayers, Bible readings - are mere accessories.
Amen that the Bible has changed your opinion of God for the better. God sent His Son to die for us, so that shows that God is benevolent and gave up Himself for us.I get depressed and wish I'd never been created when I think of most people's ideas that we were all created just to stroke God's ego for all eternity telling Him how great He is for some.. attention starved all powerful narcissist.
Then I go to the bible and see what God defines our purpose as and feel much more encouraged.
