  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is up with my extended family??

This is child abuse and you should try to put a stop to it.

There is being different and giving your children unique names, and then there is just setting them up for torture in school.
Not only torture in school, but torture in the workforce.

HR people who filter through resumes are going to develop impressions when they come across a resume from "Blade" or "Jadakiss".

These people are going to have a hard time landing a job... especially if it's a prestigious job.

I teased my cousin when she was pregnant with Eamon that the kids in school were going to call him "Eamon, the flamin gayman!!
Well, my BIL's name is Damon. The same rhyme could apply, but I don't think anyone has ever used it on him. :p

Lol.....although I shouldn't be laughing. Poor kids!
Okay, I will add to the crazy name thread stories...
Hubby and I go to church with a family that has six children. Their oldest is a girl named Rain. Their five sons after her are River, Lake, Storm, Noah and Falls. I told Hubby its a blessing that the family is a good looking bunch of Italians. I think they're good looks will be the only thing to save them when they are all in school.

My SIL has two kids:

Lexus
Mercedes

Notice a theme?

I notice the first born was more expensive^_^
I can see it now. Husband and wife looking through a Baby names book. Wife is thinking warm, nurturing thoughts. Husband is thinking "this is going to cost me how much?!" Out of curiousity, are these poor kids boys or girls?

That is sooo funny. I went to school with a set of sisters and their names were: Rainy, Stormy, and Misty.

Hehe, actors and actresses name their kids funny things, like Apple.

My BIL's about to be fiance wants to name her kids things I can't pronunce.

I have a different name, I've to this day only met 1 person with it besides me. Yet, it's not so over the top, that I'm mocked and pointed at where ever I go.

My husband has some rules about kids names No car names alcohol names, virtues(ie Destiny,Chasity,Love, hope, faith etc) and nothing he can't say.

Whenever I think about what I am going to name my kids I keep in mind what life is like and what kids are like and I go by the following rules of thumb:

The name should NEVER rhyme with a body part or any other mundane or not so mundane object that can be used as a taunt. (Myrtle the Turtle, Stephanie--Step-on-me, trust me I have personal experience with that one and it SUCKS)

The child should not be named after a car except in the case of Alexis or just truly liking the name Lexus.

The name should not hold the child up to be more than normal or average (see above post about child named Fabulous, what's next "Nissan the Great")

And the name should fit well with an 85 year old....(don't name your baby Bambi, it won't look good on the nameplate on the nursing home door.

Those are just my rules...hope I didn't offend anyone.
