It illustrates a truth, rather than reporting one (I suppose I could say it demonstrates truth but I like the "painting a picture" metaphor better).

Since fiction is generally not "overall" true, we can speak about the various specific truths that might be found in a work of fiction.

But, to say it is just "true" loses some of the point.

If I were to say for instance "Moby-Dick is true" you would have no idea what I was talking about.

If I were to say "Moby-Dick" illustrates a truth about how revenge can consume us, then you get the point of what I am saying.
I'm reading Moby Dick right now actually. And if you said "Moby Dick is truth", I would get it.

I was questioning "truth is eternal". I dont follow. Does that mean truth is outside of time?

It is from the verse, " I am the way, the truth, and the life."

God is eternal.

Not to be offensive, this should be common knowledge by now, especially with believer's in God.

Truth exists outside of time and space. Christ said I am the light, the truth, and the way. Christ understood that our perception of truth would be seen through our human senses and we would attempt to explain it in human terms from our experience. The universal embodiment of truth is Christ Jesus as he is the light that pierces all darkness which is the father of lies.

It isn't that crippled.

God is all truth, seen and unseen.

I agree that all truth is seen and unseen but what do you mean by crippled?

No. Christ is every believer's understanding. I have no idea where that post come's up with failed human sense's and such.

You are either a Christian or you aren't. We do not conform to atheistic way's, they maintain a stance with such nonsense. All that believe in God are already aware that an atheist doesn't stand a chance.

Whoever conform's to the world, has forsaken God.

The Bible says not to lean on our own understanding. This is because our understanding about truth is fallible because of our human senses. Before Christ died he said forgive them father for they know not what they do. So he understood even while hanging on that cross that human beings were fallible in their senses and that they didn't know he was the truth.
For example, take a woman who grew up in an abusive home and believed that it was OK for her to be beat and mistreated. So her relationships as an adult reflected this lie masquerading as truth that, "love is... Truth is..(fill in the blank with an abusive concept)" When it comes to Christ as truth complete, he says hey that's never OK, this is how you love one another. So our perceptions of what we believe as truth are often false negative beliefs manifesting as lies. This is where we are fallible in our human senses when we try to perceive truth and lean on our own understanding.

How did you reach the truth that Jesus Christ was a trustworthy source of truth?

Even if you are correct, why cant there also be truth that is temporal (not eternal) ?

True-
Adjective
Agreeing with the facts, not false
Real or genuine
Having all the expected or necessary qualities of the specified type of person or thing

What is true/truth to you as a human being? How do you see what is true or truth in your life? Some people say that facts are true if they are only testable with tools and human senses. I say that truth and facts of truth go much deeper than that, to a dimensional level of being.

John 17:17 says
"Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth."

John 8:32 says
"Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

1 Corinthians 13:6:
"Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices in the truth."

Galatians 4:16:
"Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?"

I've often heard it said, that truth is relative. I see this as a dismissal of the truth, and a cop out. Universal truths exist throughout the very fabric of life. In my opinion, it starts and ends with Jesus Christ. For others, this might not be truth to them. It just seems that as humanity gets closer to annihilating itself, the truth becomes ever more present in our lives. Is Jesus Christ really the truth to you, and if not, why?

Love is the truth. And God is love.

Facts are true, but they are subject to change. One can know the truth without knowing many facts at all, and one can have a host of facts available to them and still not know the truth.

This is somewhat complicated by the fact that love is "relative". It is flexible. It bends toward its object unapologetically. It is not rigid, yet it is absolute.
