Can someone help me understand what's going on here? What happened to the discussion and debate area? Why is there now a segregation? Because I'm a newbie, I'm pretty clueless about what's happening around here!

I don't know what happened to the discussion and debate subforum apparently the threads were merged with the traditional subforum. Though they still have a discussion and debate page it has 3 threads so I don't know what they are doing.
The Traditional SDA sub-forum was deleted since it would now be superfluous. All of the threads were moved from there to the main SDA forum, which is now called Traditional Adventists. I'm not sure why the threads from all of the other forums were moved, too; maybe the tech people had to do it that way for some reason. I guess if the Trads decide to keep the other sub-forums, some things could be moved back. The Traditionals are working on their FSGs and will most likely disallow debate by anyone other than themselves and non-members who are seriously considering joining the SDA Church.
If you have any threads that you started in the D&D sub-forum that you would like to be able to still discuss, I suppose they could be moved here.
Regarding the name changes, see this:

OK. Well, it's been fun posting here for awhile. I guess there's not much left for me to say. I suppose the best way for me to respect the rules would be to move along. I wish you all well. Perhaps I'll see you on CARM from time to time.

I believe my thoughts mimic BFA's - if, as you opine, the "traditional" SDA's don't frequent the general theology area, then having discussion so far away from them isn't going to incite very much interaction. You're welcome to debate here or in General Theology. Not a lot of Traditional Adventists go to GT, though, so your opportunities to interact with them will obviously be much more limited now. I'll probably see you at CARM sometimes if you choose not to stick around here.

I understand, but there aren't many Traditional Adventists to discuss things with at CARM either.
SDA participation is periodic, and I will definately grant you the few participants lately. However, I have checked on members lurking, and there are some worthwhile names reading what we post there.I understand, but there aren't many Traditional Adventists to discuss things with at CARM either.
They inherited a neat package the a bow and tie and a label reading "Truth" all over it.I have to agree with you there. Although I really have no history to understand the issues here at CF, one might wonder why certain SDAs are so opposed to open dialogue. If a person has the truth, wouldn't it stand up to the light of day?

Once they find out the contents of that package are smelly and stale, and not compliant with the Bible, many shrivel and disappear (instead of desiring real answers).
I am in no way 'above' my own observation. My learning since joining CARM has caused me to change on some doctrines I previously held precious.

A forum geared toward apologetics as its primary focus will push everyone against the wall for answers they need to find, if they don't have them. Sure, there are a couple of SDA pastors that that merely repeat the same thing over and over, but it does provide a fast learning curve. Publish or perish, kapish?

I was once a pretty dogmatic person. I was cured of that when the Spirit guided me to Scripture after Scripture that convinced me in no uncertain terms that, on most of the subjects about which I was dogmatic, I was dead wrong. Although I absolutely believe there are truths, I am also fully aware of the ratio between God's wisdom and my own! I've been on a HUGE growth curve for the past 4 years and I'm still finding blind spots I didn't even know that I had. It is for that reason that I believe in the value of open dialogue.

Well I live in General Theology. You're welcome to debate here or in General Theology. Not a lot of Traditional Adventists go to GT, though, so your opportunities to interact with them will obviously be much more limited now. Well I don't know either. If you have a message you claim as truth you should not be afraid to stand up for it or go around and spread it. That is why I am always in General Theology. When i first joined CF, i spent 3 days debating in the Lutheran Forum. But my personal opinion is that too many Adventist stay stagnant in their forum instead of going to other forums and trying to influence others.I have to agree with you there.
