He is referring to the fact that the origin story of Christianity is embellished by the authors of the first and second centuries.
Any author embellishing any story written down by the original [human] authors of Scripture would not go to the martyr's box refusing to recant.

By way of example, if Joe was to embellish the Declaration of Independence, and his embellishment was caught (by a simple comparison to the original), and Joe was ordered to admit he faked his story or go to the electric chair, Joe would recant.

No one is going to die for something he knows is a lie.

He knows exactly what I mean. But rather than admit when he doesn't have any evidence for his assertions, he just doubles down.
I'm not going to accept that someone can take a source document and embellish said document to the point that it gets blown all out of proportion.

Let's say you're right and Mark, for instance, didn't write the book of Mark -- Tom wrote it.

A hundred years later, Jeff rewrites Tom's gospel and puts Mark's name on it.

Do you really think that would fool anyone?

Everybody "training up a child in the way that he should go," reading to their child from the book of Tom, suddenly sees a "newer version" with "Tom" changed to "Mark," would (or should) consider it a heresy.

You just invoked C.S. Lewis' broken idea of the Trilemma: Liar, Legend, Lord. Lewis forgot one more option: Legend.

Ya, Typing fast.
Again, please explain to me how a source document can be so drastically changed, without anyone noticing it?

Especially with Bereans all over the place?

Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Not even the NKJV can get by with subtle changes without the Gail Riplingers and Peter S Ruckmans of the world exposing them.

Of course.. a beta version must go through the process of glitches in order to correct. As we had become self aware it was now a matter of self correction and we as self aware humans are not the greatest at that. The angels had rebelled similarly. We were beta, angels 2.0 so to speak, create a better system. We are not there yet.
God created a beta version??

If you think it can so easily be done ... test your hypothesis.

Rewrite the Declaration of Independence and try and pass it off as an authentic copy.

And don't forget:

If you get caught and are threatened with prison (or worse) unless you admit your crime ... don't forget to take the punishment.

But you won't, will you?

Science can take a hike, can't it? ;)

We have an original copy and it’s only a few past two hundred years.

Try harder.

That's right.

Now test your hypothesis and rewrite it and change the name of one of the signers.

Change Caesar Rodney to Caesar Robbins ... then claim Caesar Rodney didn't sign the Declaration.

Then, when someone (along with about a hundred thousand others) shows you Caesar Rodney's signature, just say the original manuscript is wrong.

And remember ... take your forgery to the grave if you have to!

But you won't test your hypothesis, will you?

After all, science can take a hike, can't it? ;)

We know the bible has been changed several times. Some obvious additions, some omissions and some typos. So why would anyone give their life for a book that is known to have been tampered with?

I think you're a little late to the conversation, but for the record, the argument is that:
  1. Matthew didn't write Matthew ... someone else did.
  2. Mark didn't write Mark ... someone else did.
  3. Luke didn't write Luke ... someone else did.
  4. John didn't write John ... someone else did.
The main point is this:
You just don't have all the facts. He is referring to the fact that the origin story of Christianity is embellished by the authors of the first and second centuries. The Christian martyr narrative is a legend.
The original story of Christianity was not authored in the second century, nor was anything embellished.

The New Testament was finished in AD 96, with the book of Revelation.

Matthew, Mark, and Luke were real men, who were inspired to write the Gospels that bear their names, and died martyr's death for refusing to recant.

What isn't true? I said three things in one sentence.
Yes you said three things in one sentence; as an English teacher I shrug.

Matthew, Mark, and Luke did not compose the Gospels attributed to them. Others did and no one knows who. Google it--read peer review sources--you'll see.
