What is the nature of man?

Yah. You can't use reason with everything. You could say it's a balance they strike, the irrational and rational. But I hate it when people abuse the irrational side. It's like I'm on the outside, saying "Just use your common sense! Use your reason!"
Of course, they're on the TV and can't here me. I usually think this when viewing political happenings. And I'm sure you can figure out which party I mean from my icons by my name, right? LOL. But sometimes Republicans can be just as irrational with certain things. We're ALL human, after all. Hehe.

One boy will do the chores.

Two boys will screw around and might do the chores.

Three boys will go swimming.

owg

Not in my family. All three would have very sore bottoms if they didn't do as they were told. Plus, we haven't got a swimming pool in my area. Just a canal. :D Yes, I know. It's a saying, and isn't meant to be taken literally. Just saying that wouldn't apply in my family. HEHE.

Because some things cannot be explained rationally and with reason.

Such as what?

If you think reason and logic are the only worthy things, you're not living.

Psh.

I do live.

How is living rationally anymore boring or hard then living sanely?

I find fun more in the irrational than the rational side of life, and yes, fun is essential. Helps us relax a little, and reduces stress.

Drugs may ease stress for some. Sex may ease stress for others. Do you purpose living the life of a sexed-out druggie? I hope not.

You make it seem as if fun and reason are opposites. Why is that? Is someone with any semblance of brains or maturity incapable of having fun?

Being amused or entertained does not require killing off your mind. Quite the opposite, having fun builds up the mind.

sounds like you are trying to rationalize being irrational.

one has to separate 'what' one does and 'why' one does it.

i am not sure what taste has to do with reason but like i just said one has to separate 'what' people do from 'why' they do it. 'what' a person does can sometimes be irrational if they have a rational reason 'why' they should do it.

if i understand your argument correctly it goes something like 'peoples goals are aribitrary therefore people cant be said to be rational'. i would say that moving toward your goals is rational. moving away from your goals is irrational. the goals themselves are irrelevant unless your goal is to move away from your goals.

A persons tastes are decided by genes and experiences, and even so logic still takes place in such contexts, having "taste" for something is just another factor weighed in by logical analysis.
I don't like broccoli. This is not subject to logic. Logic is one of the tools I use to avoid eating broccoli. However, logic on its own cannot tell me whether or not I like broccoli.

I have no idea what you're talking about
