Hey....I know plenty of older blokes who ain't grouchy. :p

Well that is nice. I guess there just is no excuse for me being a grouch.

I will just put it off to seeing so many people just giving lip service to God. After a while I get frustrated.

Jesus used to get angry at people when they were being fools.

Contemplating the highest form of worship.
What i see as I read through this thread, is that all of the posters
love God and want despereately to know how to please Him... and
we may all have different ideas and be at different stages in our walk
and different levels in our maturity in Christ, we all have something
in common and that is .. we're family... we should try to learn to
discern the body of Christ.
What is the highest form of worship?
I'm still thinking too..

Other people's devotion is not necessarily "lip service". Obedience, love, communion - these are not lip service unless you misunderstand the words.

How is (comm)union with God Himself "lip service', for instance?

(Matthew 21:28-31) “What is your opinion? A man had two sons. He went and said to the first, ‘My boy, you go and work in the vineyard today, He answered, ‘I will not go’ but afterwards thought better of it and went. The man then went and said the same thing to the second who answered,’ Certainly’, sir but did not go. Which of the two did the father’s will? ‘The first they said.’

The second son gave his father, in my understanding, lip service.

Both sons communed with the father, but only one son loved his father.

I would agree that the Eucharist is the heart of our worship, where God and man meet together in fellowship and unity to celebrate the core of our faith: God became man, crucified and risen and the whole Body of Christ as one in the presence of heaven and earth.

The Eucharist is most sacred, God with us, us with God; the foretaste of the heavenly banquet and world to come.

Yes, the Eucharist is the heart of worship. I came across this video on You Tube on the Canon of Holy Communion from the altar. This is the favorite part of the liturgy for any Orthodox, and it is the first time I've seen it from within the altar area.

What is the truth then, sir?

A truth is that a Spiritual Christian will not sin. A Christian loves God, and his people. To love God one has to obey him.

Truth is that Jesus is God, and to worship him is to live his Word.

Bit late into this one, but the highest form of worship would comprise several things (please don't however read this as a check-list of things to tick off)

Obedience in love - We are called to do justice, love and walk humbly with God etc...
This itself is a covering of other things, Prayer, Holy Communion etc.

We are called to worship in Spirit and in truth. Truly loving is only possible with the guidance and help of the Holy Spirit, Holy Communion is a sacrament in which the Holy Spirit comes down to affect a change etc...

In all these things, the utmost worth is given and shown to God, which is what worship is.

What does He want??

Calling on the name of Jesus bring glory to God in the Highest. Faith is confessing that He is Lord of all.

Phl 2:10That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven, and [things] in earth, and [things] under the earth;
Phl 2:11 And [that] every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ [is] Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Silent Meditation: Silence is the praise to you Ps 65.2 according to the Tanakh (Jewish bible). For God is in Heaven and you upon earth; therefore let your words be few (Eccles. 5:1, Tanakh), in the multitude of words lacks not trespasses (Prov. 10-19, Tanakh).; in Babylon, silence is the mark of pure lineage (Kidushin 71 b)

I have been wondering, did Jesus create us so he would have his creation worship him?

Jesus said his disciples were his friends. He called them his friends because they were clean. They heard his Word and were willing to live that Word. When they received the Holy Spirit his friends then were able to fully live God’s Word.

Did Jesus ever show that his people should worship him? Jesus washed his disciples feet, and he gave us an example of how we should treat one another. We are the body of Christ, so if we wash each other’s feet then that to me says what kind of worship Jesus wants from us.

We can't give Him anything but love. Humans have nothing else to give in return for the sacrifice of His Son.

And you do realize that the only way one can love God is to hear his Word and live that Word?

Dear sunlover1. Jesus tells the Lawyer in Matthew, chapter 22, verses 35-40: "The first and great Commandment is: love thy God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. The second is like unto it: love thy neighbour as thyself." Then Jesus points out: " on these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." Jesus also told us: " if you love me you will follow my Commandments." As we see, Love is the highest and greatest. How do we show God that we love Him? The first step will be to show God our Love, what does God wants us to do? Show our love: How: We treat all we know and all we meet as we would love to be treated: with kindness, a smile, rather than look the other way, and a helping hand, where needed. God sees our true efforts to show His loving concern, and will approve and bless. ( Remember we are the only representatives God has on Earth, and God loves all, and God does not force us.) What would please God more than proving our love by showing our love for our neighbour? selfless love and no conditions asked. We are told in the Bible ( God`s Word to Man) Repent, change our selfish and unloving character INTO: Loving God and loving each other, love as God wants us to love, everything we say, or do, done from loving God and our fellow-men. Love covers a multitude of deeds and words, and love will grow, and change All. We have Jesus to help and guide us, and the Holy Spirit will empower us with His Love. Everytime we stumble or fail, we will as God to forgive us, as we will forgive others. ( Jesus teaches us in His Prayer: Our Father in Heaven) Jesus also told us: " ask and ye will receive," God will answer our prayers if we ask sincerely. There is Nothing Higher than selfless Love, and the greatest Worship we can give our Heavenly Father. I say this humbly and with love, sunlover. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.
