Yes, as I said, childish.
Well if the fact that I don't accept Charlemagne as a brother in Christ makes me childish, then consider me childish.

I've been expected by academia to accept Hitler as a brother in Christ because he wore a belt buckle that said GOTT MIT UNS on it.

If that article of clothing made Hitler a Christian, then does using coins that say IN GOD WE TRUST make you one?

Do you live in a country that has a cross on its flag; or mentions God in its national anthem?

If so, does that make you a Christian?

If you won't accept yourself as a Christian, don't expect me to accept Charlemagne as one.

Did Charlemange consider himself a christian?

Did Charlemange consider himself a christian?
Don't know, don't care, don't care to know.

My guess though is that he probably did.

And as I pointed out, his forced conversion program was probably carried out so as to force tithing.

And ... as I pointed out, the Bible says he erred from the faith.

1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Thus Charlemagne might have been a Christian in academic circles, but not according to the Bible.

So's this:

Matthew 10:14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

No matter what you claim.
I'm not claiming things aren't in the bible, you did that. You don't like being shown to be wrong, do you Genghis?

Then, who are you to judge his faith?
Let's try this again, chief.

1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

The Bible judges him ... not I.

And besides, if academia uses him as a poster child for Christianity, I usually automatically get suspicious and have to compare him to Scripture to see if it's true or not.

We aren't talking academia. We are talking tradition. Devout peasants who can neither read nor write, asking the saints to intercede for them. And listing Charlemagne among those saints. Hired mercenaries who pray to Jesus to help them be like Charlemagne.
And country churches with Charlemagne's banner flying from their bell tower.
French right wingers through the 20th century, embracing Charlemagne as the ideal french christian.
All very far from academia.

”Academia” is not an entity with views.

The bible is not an entity who can judge people, its a dead thing, a book. The judging is made solely by you.

We aren't talking academia.
Are you saying academia doesn't bring up Charlemagne as an example of a Christian man?
Mr Laurier said:
We are talking tradition.
So tradition brings up Charlemagne as a Christian man?
Mr Laurier said:
Devout peasants who can neither read nor write, asking the saints to intercede for them.
And let me guess ... who should answer the call, but Charlemagne and his band of born-again Christians ... right?
Mr Laurier said:
And listing Charlemagne among those saints.
I've seen Hitler listed among saints too. And you wonder why I'm against academia?
Mr Laurier said:
Hired mercenaries who pray to Jesus to help them be like Charlemagne.
And let me guess: Jesus answered their prayers?
Mr Laurier said:
And country churches with Charlemagne's banner flying from their bell tower.
Lest Mr Martel shut them down?
Mr Laurier said:

Have I ever mentioned that the Antichrist will come from Europe?
Mr Laurier said:
All very far from academia.
So let me get this straight:

People who can neither read nor write, call for help, and help arrives in the form of Charlemagne, who helps them. Then these ignorant peasants fly his banner from their bell towers, and you want me to believe that's acceptable behavior?

Do you find that acceptable behavior?

If not, okay with you if I don't either?

The only agents that can make value judgements are living things.
Fine ... academia was never alive then.

You can believe that, if you want; but don't expect me to.

At least I give them some credit.
