Whether or not the laws of nature (or rather physics) were set by a god or came about naturally through some unknown mechanism is irrelevant to the practice of science.
Can't you see how ridiculous this is? It's irrelevant if the house I'm living in was created by someone? If the rules we live by are not just random happenstance? You can't be serious.
If God exists his effect has to be measurable.

He got pretty much everything wrong even by current theories. Yet they still prop up his ideas as if they were correct.
Yup.

He:

1. Was buried in the prestigious Westminster Abbey.
2. Has his face on the £10 note.
3. Has his name on the capital city of Australia's Northern Territory.

You can't be serious.

I absolutely am serious.

If there is an effect of "god" then we certainly *haven't* measured it. Perhaps we will. Perhaps we can't. Perhaps it isn't there. I don't know and make no claim as to which.

As a Christian this is a very poor argument. The effects of God have never been measured. People have made claims, but no measurements have been made. By making this claim you are in effect saying that there is no God.

Yes it is irrelevant, the house exists and is what it is. Doesn't matter how you look at it or even who built it, it is still the same house. Now you may have one idea of where the house came from, and I might have another, but it is still the same house

If it makes a difference then let's run a hypothetical.

I'll assume that God exists and He is responsible for...let's say gravity. Now you assume He doesn't and gravity exists as an uncreated force.

How will that affect us in different ways? You go first.

Really?

He had very limited evidence to work with, but on the broad strokes he has been totally born out by the evidence.

Variation within species is selected for and passed to offspring... over time this variation builds and with isolation this leads to speciation.

If God exists his effect has to be measurable.

This feels like a very poorly thought through argument.

On it's surface it seems to be a simple argument against God:
"If God exists, then his actions should leave evidence. There isn't evidence, therefore..."

But that's a flawed argument because the initial premise is impossible to define. Given you can't put constraints on what is possible or desirable for an omnipotent and unknowable being then you can't define what would, or would not be evidence.

A being that is all powerful and has mysterious ways can simply have a good, reasonable and efficient reason for doing literally anything, but we just don't understand. This makes it completely useless as a way of analysing the universe.

That doesn't make sense.

It is irrelevant to science because God is unknown and as long as he remains unknown all we have are contradictory apologetics from numerous religions and denominations.

To whom?

Ever heard of Paul's sermon on Mar's Hill?

Acts 17:23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.

@AV1611VET
Do you know God?
Yep, I thought so.
Me too.

Pretty sure there's a few hundred billion ppl who would challenge the claim that God is unknown.

Is it your belief that by "knowing" God,
you are thus gifted with infallible bible-
reading skill?

God is unknown science. When you say you know God you are specking from your heart which is different from scientifically knowing.

Why is he unknown? Because they are afraid to go there!

I dont understand what this sentence means.
But I can say with certainty that God is NOT unknown.

Which one?

(Certainly? It's usually best not to state
opinions as fact. Hillary was certain that
she would win)
