• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A priest asked what one word would sum up Christ's message; what Jesus taught while on earth. Various duggestions were put forward - love, kindness, obedience (to God's will presumably), sacrifice and so on.

The priest said no. The core message of Jesus was CHANGE.

Everyone needed to change their heart, their ways - metanoia.
He does that. Our part is to confess He is LORD.

"Core" was a good word to use. In a tree the core of the trunk is unseen, yet we conclude upon it's life by viewing the fruit produced upon that part of the tree which we can see. The core of Christianity is without doubt Christ, but Him you cannot visibly, personally analyze. OK, there are a number of bad apples here and there in the visible Christian Church, and yet some apples are found that are acceptably healthy. How could one apple though be produced upon a bough without life first existing within the trunk? If you can find only one, just one miraculous Christian experience in all of your lifelong search, you will have no alternative but to conclude upon an unseen and omnipotently preserving Being behind that otherwise ordinary creature.

No, I don't think what is. I'm not sure what has anything to do with Christianity. This is the core of Christianity.

Basically, god doesn't like scrumpers. You can rape and pillage all you like, slaughter infants, indulge in incest, the works. But don't for a minute even think of nicking apples. Otherwise, in that day, you shall surely die. Apparently this means living 13 times longer than a normal human being, and god will also have to kill himself to save his creation from his own wrath. Oh, and all your billions of descendants will rot in hell for all eternity whether they like apples or not.

Luckily god so loves you that he won't rot you in hell for all eternity after killing himself if you are one of the lucky few chosen to give 10% of your income to your local cult salesperson, and obviously don't actually claim on the policy.

Makes sense to me.

analog, please don't listen to Boro Nut vbmenu_register("postmenu_21014968", true); Newbie. I may get "warned " for this, but even if I get banned, I can not stand by and let someone slap my Lord like that. This forum says it is for Christian Forums > Open to All Members Section > Outreach > Questions by Non-Christians OUT reach! QUESTIONS by non-Christians...not for such inflamatory statements as Boro Nut has made. If you want to know about Christianity get your questions answered by Christians...I am so sorry you honest question was treated so sadly and badly, sincerely, Pony

To put it in a nutshell: realize we have all fallen short of the glory of God, sinners in need of a Savior, Jesus is that Savior, took our punishment upon Himself. Receive the salvation thru His atonement, live the way He tells us in His word.
And I'd like to add, we pursue an active RELATIONSHIP with God, despite the shameful things the "church" has done in God's name.

I sincerely hope you don't get banned, and I didn't slap your Lord. We've never even met.

I simply paraphrased what the bible says. Some of my best friends own apple trees and they almost never kill scrumpers for all eternity. The correct action would have been for god to accept a written apology or take Adam to court. I'm pretty sure he would have got off completely given his naivete at the time and in all probability was below the age of criminal responsibility anyway. Even if he could be charged, the most he should have got was a few hours community service.

In point of fact God sentenced Eve to dreadful pain in childbirth and Adam to hard labour for life. That's 930 years. For one apple!

And what about the snake? He started it all remember. It was his idea. What did he get? Crawl about on his stomach.

I don't want to be picky, but it's not much of a punishment for a snake is it? I bet he was going "You What? But I already... I haven't got any le... Oh No! Right! Yeah. No I get you now. Oh that's a good one. You got me there. Right, I'll be off then. Oh how does this go again. Oh yeah, ooh ooh ouch, this is horrible. I wish I could fly like normal".

:( What about the poor jews who were judged before we all got the easy way out ? Doesn't really seem fair nor just ?
Eternity is outside of time, and there are none throughout time who have not had a chance to hear the message Jesus brought of good news. He led those captive out of captivity from hell and death once and for all, but this happened in eternity where there is no past or future. We have a linear way of thinking, but eternity is in the "now" and nowhere else. Science proves that timelessness is a reality with mathematics, yet we can barely wrap our mind around how existing outside the dimension of time would be.
Also, earlier, you mentioned how God can be three persons yet one God. Well, it is a good thing that He transcends the limitations and dimensions of mortal man or we would all be in hopeless trouble. The properties of God are vast. We exist and have our being inside of God, yet He can and does manifest Himself in the image of flesh as Jesus. when Jesus left to intercede for us before the Father in battle against the forces of evil, He sent us His Holy Spirit as a guide and comforter. How is God able to do all these things? We do not know for now, but the day comes when we will know as we are known.

1 Peter 3:18 ¶ For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit,
19 by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison,

Eph. 4:8 Therefore He says: "When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men."
9 (Now this, "He ascended" —what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth?

1Co 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
