  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That was the last generation, though each console has some of everything and the Xbox had a handful of really good RPGs (KOTOR 1&2 and Fable). There were some that were on all of them like the Baldur's Gate games. PS2 has the Champions of Norrath games as well as tons of Japanese style RPGs. I've heard Battle for Middle Earth is good but I've never tried an RTS on a console.

If it's PC type RPGs and strategy you are looking for, you'll need a PC, though some 360 titles are looking promising.

I'm looking to get a gaming console and like to play games like Baldur's Gate and Medieval Total War. What would you folks recommend?
Get a PC, if you can afford it get one specifically designed for gaming. Consoles have fixed technology and can not be upgraded. A PC whether or not it has been specifically designed for gaming can be upgraded as the games demand upgrades. The new PS3 is said to retail between five and six hundred dollars. Think about that. In three years, maybe less you will be in line for the PS5, since Asians believe that the number four is bad luck, it's their equivalent of our number thirteen. That's why you never see the number four in anything from Asian manufacturers in the way of electronics.

I never saw a number four in the Palm Pilot lineup, the went from the Palm IIIxe to the Palm V, skipped right over number four. Anyway, a thousand dollars now will last alot longer than six hundred now and then who knows how much more in a few years. Plus the games are just incredible on a PC as opposed to what is offered on the consoles. Consoles have been trying to catch the PC market for years and they always come up short and always will. That's why the console manufacturers have to try and out-do each other, cuz they can't out-do a PC.

I'd guess go for a 360. Fully rigged gaming PCs are too expensive, and you have to be proficient in working on computers just to make games play correctly, if at all.
There are gaming PCs to fit every budget. You can pick up a decent gaming desktop for $1000, which ain't that much more expensive than a PS3 that's gonna be obsolete by next year. And your last statement about needing to be proficient in computers just to get PC games to play if even at all is just silly. Yeah there might be some tweaking of power settings and frame rates if you're looking for bleeding edge performance, but if this person is someone that is happy with consoles and the games they offer, bleeding edge technology and 90 fps frame rates are not something they are not going to be concerned with.

ALL Asians? :doh:That's just silly.

4 in Japanese sounds similar to death, so it's bad luck. That doesn't mean that the number 4 does not appear in electronics. Ever heard of Resident Evil 4? Devil May Cry 4? Virtua Fighter 4? Tekken 4? Those all come from here. Most elevators here also have a 4th floor (not all, but most).

Ironically, Japan had Super Mario Brothers 4: Super Mario World, while the western versions all dropped the "4" from the title.

My main problem with the 360 is they are STILL having quality control problems.

I don't consider video games to be electronic devices and I gave the example of Palm Pilots in my post, something you've chosen to ignore. Perhaps I should clarify more in my posts just for you and said the Asians that work for PalmOne. And just how do you drip a number 4 from your title? :)

I don't consider video games to be electronic devices...
It's a video game forum.

Since you consider video game consoles to be an electronic device, you'd be interested to know that Sega released that Master System II as the Mark IV is some countries (ie. Taiwan).

If you look at cars, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV came out here in Japan. They did not skip from III to V. The IV, while it is sometimes thought of having to do with death, isn't really a huge deal here.

...and I gave the example of Palm Pilots in my post, something you've chosen to ignore. Perhaps I should clarify more in my posts just for you and said the Asians that work for PalmOne.
You do realize that Palm is an American company, don't you? It has never been Japanese.

And just how do you drip a number 4 from your title? :)
Slower than you'd drop it. :)
