Hello, Protestant/ Reformed/Evangelical posters.

Which denomination do you belong to?
Southern Baptist

What is the "procedure" followed for being baptized there? (i.e which prayers are used.) I want the "step by step" how it's done.
You go in the back, put on your robe (depending on the church - not all use robes - I recommend them if you happen to be a woman and you wore white)

The preacher makes the customary joke that he's going to hold you under because you didn't bring donuts.

You walk to the baptistry, the preacher cusses the sextant under his breath for not warming it up first.

The preacher asks you if you have trusted Christ as your savior, you say "Yes", he tells you to cross your arms and down you go.

"I baptise you in the name of the Father, the Son and of the Holy Spirit" You go under (yes, you can hold your nose). Then, while you are under "Crucifed with Christ, raised to new life in Him". You're brought up, everyone cheers, amazed that the preacher didn't drop you, and then they proceed to a hymn (picked out by the victim, er, baptisee). Then we eat chicken.

Is it necessary to be baptized for salvation?
No. First of all, baptism is something that is an outward sign of the salvation you've already recieved.

Second, you wouldn't be allowed to be baptised until you've attested that you have recieved Christ, taken your new believers' class (sometimes taught by yours truly) and been counseled.

Is it necessary to be baptized to be "welcomed" as a member of that denomination?
Sometimes but not necessarily. You can also get in if you have a letter from another church.

If you ever "switched" to another denomination, did you get baptized there?
Yes. I was brought up in the Methodist church, where I was sprinkled as a baby. When I became a Christian, I went to a baptist church and got baptised there.

People who hold to the baptistic tradition believe that membership in a church does not confer salvation. The Act of admitting that you are a sinner, approaching the Lord with true repentence in your heart, placing your trust in Jesus, and asking him to be your Lord is what gains one the wonderful gift of salvation.

Anyone who does this is saved, regardless of the denomination or church they belong to.

I was raised in the Presbyterian church among many who felt that salvation was automatic and guaranteed for all when Jesus was sacrificed. This belief is totally un-Biblical.

Until you accept salvation you are not a real Christian, only a churchgoer. The Lord said:

Mt 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Mt 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

Mt 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Southern Baptists don't consider Methodists to be Christians?
Sure we do. I'm sorry if I gave the impression that they're not. That's the last thing I meant to imply.

Some Methodists are Christians and some aren't. What denomination you belong to doesn't matter a whit when you stand before God. There are plenty of wonderfully Godly people in the UMC and there are plenty of people in the SBC who wouldn't know Jesus if He walked up and asked them to dance.

I was only speaking for myself. I didn't become a Christian until I left the Methodist church but being in the Methodist church laid the groundwork for my becoming a Christian.

Right.

Like the late, great, Keith Green once said, "Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than going to McDonalds makes you a hamburger".
