In 2002-2003 (link). 13,000-16,000 a year.

It varies due to economic factors by region. Also there may be a car allowance (or not) plus free room and board.

I've seen some current numbers place high end at 20,000 a year.

S0, $15,000 plus a house and a car?
well that and benefits, however no retirement.
But yea, its very little spendable income. Some priests however write books and participate in other activies which give them substantial income increases.

Well few get a car and most pay for their own. It depends on the diocese. This is the salary for a priest who is not part of an order.

But 15-20 plus a place to live is, I'd think the norm. Normally they buy their own car and get an allowance for upkeep.

Usually they don't have to pay for food or insurance. This makes me wonder about Eastern Rite Catholic priests who might have a wife and kids. They must get a little more.

But above is the norm for Latin rite in a diocese.

Well our priest just got a brand new car valued at $60k....
Did he buy it or was it a gift? I used to live in a rural Baptist area, and the Catholic Priests lacked for almost nothing material. They constantly received tickets for plays and ball games in the city.

a priest i know in myrtle beach drives a bmw SUV...

Our three priests get a total of 30,000/yr. How much more the pastor gets, I don't know. I would guess that means the other two get less than 10,000/yr.

The only thing they pay for is transportation. All food and housing are provided.

How about healthcare and retirement?

Retirement seems to vary. I know one priest who retired in a rectory. Others end up in a kind of community home for priests. I think healthcare is through the diocese. I don't know how much it costs, or how good the coverage is.

In my diocese it's about 2000$ a month. It's not much considering that they all have to take care of their retiremen. They also have to get their own transportation and they have to maintain it.

That's a good chunk of $$ right there.

Peace

There is retirement, at least in some dioceses.
