  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Aha - I saw this site once and lost the link. I'll look over it whilst enjoying a Scotch.

It's good. =) And as technicality goes, it's pitched towards the slightly above-average college student with not much calculus needed for the basic stuff (although you need quite a bit of background knowledge to get the quantum stuff). But the watermark does get in the way of the reading a little, especially on a computer screen ...

Thanks, That' what I thought too. Check out his resources page, he has a nice compendium of links to educational resources. Obviously he has put a lot of thought and effort into this site. Every once in a while it's nice to come across one of these gems. Kinda restores my faith in human nature (a little).

YEC...approx 6-8000 years old...

Can I ask why the "fudge factor" of 6000 to 8000 years? If one believes in a 6000 year old earth then it is predicated solely on Bishop Ussher's exhaustive calculations which shouldn't leave much room for error, let alone nearly 33% error.

This is not to sound dismissive in the slightest, I think it a very interesting question: is there any evidence aside from Ussher's calculation that would lead anyone to propose a specific value of 6000 years old?

Certainly the physical data shows a picture that isn't even close to that short a time (even if you go out to 8000 years old) and certainly no physical data indicates anything shorter than that, so we are left with one line of reasoning and one only to support 6000 years of age. Apart from that there shouldn't be any "wiggle room" in that figure should there? Isn't the word of the Bible inerrant on this matter?

Wow, I created this thread a few weeks back in General Theology. I didn't even know that there was an Origins Theology forum.
Then welcome! Take a seat and be sure to dodge the occasional fireballs - we mean you no harm, only your ideas. ;D
