The word "sin" is an archery term and means to miss the target. If you want to know God's standard, it is Jesus. Anyone believe that they meet God's standard?

Westminster’s definition is very good.

Of course sin is complex and can be understood from many different angles and using many different metaphors. The Bible utilizes many metaphors to help us understand sin. Some that come to mind are a crouching animal, sickness, blindness, deafness, stiff neck, hard heart, financial debt, blood guilt, weights that cling to us, etc...

The 10 commandments can also be understood as 10 perspectives on sin. Any particular sin breaks all 10 commandments. All sin is idolatry, dishonoring authority, stealing, adultery, murder, etc...

From my understanding sin is separation from God. Sin is anything we do that goes against our identity in Christ and that only happens when we are separated from God (when we are without His Holy Spirit) So, stealing, cursing, murdering, etc are the fruits of that separation. That’s why the Bible shows that when we have the Holy Spirit, He also produces fruit in us, which is Christ.

Using that definition of sin, then it would be ok to love the world. The law provides no instruction against worldliness.

God's standard is Jesus. Think of Lord Jesus as humanity's target to aim at. All "miss the target", even the most noble.

Lots of things we do don't have anything to do with faith but they are not sins. I think as usual I am causing confusion at least to myself.

"Sin" may be an archery term, but that is not its normal, primary meaning. To equate it with Biblical "sin" is a serious mistake. The normal definition is "an immoral act considered to be a transgression against divine law." For example, in John's Gospel, "Jesus said [to the Samaritan woman], “I do not condemn you either. Go, and from now on do not sin any more.” (John 8:11b) Do you really believe He was teaching her archery?

Secondly, I and every other saved Christian meets God's standard, because we are all His adopted children in Christ. Jesus paid for our sins on the cross, thereby removing the divine judgement against us.

First, the Bible is full of types and parables and so on. I'm not actually a sheep, even though I'm called one. Second, we do not meet God's standard. We die and our lives are hidden in Christ with God. I have not changed one bit. Lord Jesus meets my standard on my behalf. I am the righteousness of God in Christ. I am a new creation in Christ. I tried counting how many times the NT says "in Christ" or "In Him" meaning the same thing. I gave up counting at 50.
