I just wanted to know what being pentecostal was.

Kinda sad I know, Ive been pentecostal all my life but have yet to know what it means.

As far as I can tell the only thing that makes us different from other forms of christianity is that we make a lot of noise.^_^

so could anybody tell me what makes pentecostals different from other christian faiths????

Hi
Pentecost is the Christian feast that is celebrated on the 7th Sunday after Easter to mark the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles. The Scripture reference is (Acts 2:1-21) The Pentecostal and Charismatic branches of Christianity see the Baptism with the Holy Spirit as a second work of Grace;with the attending evidence of speaking in other tongues or "glossolalia". Other "Gifts of the Spirit" are usually made evidence to the believer in God's time, (1Cor 12). The exercise of these gifts must always be from love ( 1Cor 13). Salvation is the initial work of The Spirit in sealing the believer and marking the believer as God's property. Note There will be some who say that you are not saved unless you speak in tongues and that is a false teaching so ingore it! Glad to be able to help. God Bless

But it began in the OT, 50 days after the end of Passover when Moses brought the 10 commandments down from Mt. Sinai! Amazing how God uses circles of history. In theory, (if the Pope/Constantine hadn't created a formula for Easter that ignored Passover) it is the same holy day in the OT and the NT. OT prophecy and NT fulfillment!

This is an historical background...

Denominations morph all the time, so there might be cultural things that accompany the basics. For instance, I think that southern Pentecostals tend to be more conservative in dress and lifestyle than some other denominations...just from things I've heard.

Hey Barb
Did you ever do a study in Leviticus and Hebrews simultaneously? The types and shadows of Christ in the OT sacrifices are awesome! Check out "The Law of The Offerings" by Andrew Jukes.

Actually the Holy Spirit was given in fullness on the day of Pentecost. This "baptism with the Spirit" was an empowerment for witnessing with attending "signs and wonders" The Spirt is God; the third Person of the Triune God. The Holy Spirit is eternal he is not "born"
God Bless
