While this post may seem silly, I sincerely need your help in choosing a church for myself and my family. We are attending a church right now but we feel it is not the place for us. So what I would like to do is tell you what I'm looking for in a church and see if anyone can tell me what denomination it sounds like.

I want a church thas focuses quite a bit on the family.
-encourages family devotions/worship
-encourages the men to lead their familes

I want a church where women are in their proper roles
-submissive to their husbands
-do not teach other men
-older women teach younger women
-women dress properly

I want a church that does a lot of ministering to others in the community.
A church that offers a lot of fellowship outisde of Sunday services.
A church that delves into deeper issues than usual.
A church that is not afraid to step on toes.
A church that believes you need to live a Godly life in addition to just accepting Jesus as your savior.
Traditional hymns mixed with contemporary worship.
Goodness, this is harder than I thought. I realize some of these are personal church preferances rather than denominational guidelines but I thought I would voice them anyway. As far as beliefs...
I believe the usual acceptance of Christ, Jesus died on the cross, was son of God, born of virgin Mary.
I believe in healing, tongues, etc. but wouldn't consider myself too charismatic.
I'm pretty conservative in my beliefs. We don't watch R movies or bad tv shows. We only listen to Christian music. Pro-life. Against homosexuality. We are homeschooling.
I realize this may seem shallow and leagalistic but I just didn't know how else to give you an idea of who I am.
Can anyone help me?

Come over to Theologia Crucis - Confessional Lutherans and see if a Lutheran church is for you. It sounds like you might like the Lutheran Church Missiouri Synod or the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Church if that is near you. You probably do have an LCMS church nearby.

I suggest you take a church of any denomination, in fact, even one that doesnt belong to a division. Seek fellowship not because of its title, but because of its people. Be sure the church you seek follows strictly by God's word, and strays not from it. As long as you seek these things you will be happy with what you find, these are the things that please God.

I shouldn't be worried about finding a church that shares my beliefs?

No, we should not put a lot of emphasis on denominations but like it or not everyone's beliefs fall into a denomination of some sort. I want to find a church with the qualities I stated. I do not know what denomination to try without doing this. Understand?

I think you should try out lots of denominations. The anglican church I visit sounds similar to what you're looking for though I know that the other anglican church down the road from it would be quite different. So try out different churches...visit for two-three weeks and see which you like best.
