What is meant by......

I have heard some one tell a christian to live by the laws of the land.
What exactly are the "laws of the land"? I think I have some idea and if I am correct than I don't think it would be a wise choice for the christian to live by them.

It isn't a matter of Choice. It is a matter of obedience.

Romans 13:1 ¶ Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. {ordained: or, ordered}
2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

I understand partly but what would be considered "laws of the land"?   the 10 commandments?

Well, to be sure I suppose we would have to ask the person who said that to explain what they meant, but I assumed they meant just that. The laws of the county and/or state/county/city where you live. That is what I consider the laws of the land. I don't think the speaker had in mind the ten commandments per se. However, you do realize most laws all over the world are based in some part or to some extent on the Ten Commandements.

Now I understand. But here is the scope. My bestfriend (woman) is a christian who is trying to show this guy who is currently going thru a divorce Jesus. I think and so do alot of other people who know these two that this guy has other intentions. He had told me that once his divorce is final that he wants to hook up with my friend. He has already cheated on his wife in the past. I kind of get the feeling that he is using my friend. But she can't see that. She says that a christian is suppose to love another and help each other with their problems. But this guy will only talk with her, they have to meet in secret so his wife won't find out or other people. It really irritates me. He has already kissed my friend once and when she told me, I got really upset. A married guy secretly meeting with a Christian. I don't think he cares to hear what she has to say about God, he has his mind on other things. This whole thing about these 2 really really irriate me. I am I supposed to do.

He is the one who told her to go by the laws of the land.  That is is okay for her to date him while he is separated.   I kind of don't that is right

I see what you are saying and understand now what you are getting at. I know neither of them nor their intent nor motivation. I share your concern about the impropriety of the whole thing.

Further, I know of no law of the land that would over ride the Word of God. God's Word is clear enough about love, marriage, seperation and divorce.

Although this is a question likely better suited for Dear Abby, I think maybe someone is trying to "fool" someone here. The question is, who is fooling who or is it that we have some people foolng themselves?

Anyway I am in no position to judge anyone's heart. But I can appreciate your concern.

thanks. What you said made sense. I do care about my friend alot after all she is the one who showed me the way to Jesus. We almost stopped being friends over this. Me moving away (do to job) helped a little. When I do talk to her via phone we don't mention his name or that situation.

Oh GOOD! You must stand by your friend, who is now your sister too, and love her no matter what and pray for her in earnest. There is nothing greater you can do for her now. Just be there for her and even when you feel you must not condone her actions make sure she knows you are not judging her, just loving her as you have explained here tonight. You might make this a matter of prayer that you post in the prayer forum. Just that your friend who introduced you to Jesus is now having a struggle of her own and could use the loving prayers of some fellow Christians. That should be adequate.

ok i thougt about what you said.  I have been a little judgmental.  I don't know for sure what the current situation between them is.  The last that she told me was that she felt that he wasn't for her for reasons that she stated right before I moved.  But I have a feeling that she may backslide AGAIN, because she did it when her and I met.  I was a wolf in sheeps clothing.  And I can see everything happening again this time with a guy

HMMM. Well I am not entirely clear about the meaning of the last two sentences. Maybe it is just because it is late. Anyway, I am sure your heart is right and you will pray for your friend. Remember to post prayer requests and get others praying for her too.

And we remember we should ALWAYS pray for ourselves too.
