What is Marriage About?

I view marriage as a vocation. We are bettered through the union on multiple planes. It's avenue for mission and the fulfillment of divine purpose for each. And we're ambassadors to the world. Our example enables others to see the beauty of oneness and holiness up close.

marriage is an invitation to die.

It's also a battle, not between the man and woman but against principalities and powers of darkness. Some folks get the impression that it's always going to be about some romantic experience sitting on a balcony somewhere sipping chardonnay. Not at all. While there may be moments of respite, the majority of the time it's going to be about waging war against the devil. It's not about sex. It's not about the financial benefits of more income coming in. It's really about showcasing the glory of God. Period.

We are told to resist the devil and he will flee. All warfare is not the same. Some is the result of sin, spiritual burdens, or the work the Lord has given us to perform. No two people have the same position and gifting in the body. Some will see greater warfare than others. There's variance in what you're fighting too.

Nevertheless, we shouldn't be inundated with battles all the time and maintaining that state is taxing. It affects the mind, body and spirit. Satan likes to keep us in that place to wear us down. The battle isn't ours. Its God's.

We should strengthen our prayer muscles during singleness and learn how to stand for and against problems in intercession and practical actions that deepen our walk and mettle.

When you demonstrate spiritually you won't back down. Won't stop praying or cease to stand for your spouse and loved ones. You'll move mountains in that realm. Because you show up every day without fail. That's when they back off.

Companionship, intimacy, moral support, a bond between families, etc. Also, a good context for raising children if you decide to have them.

From my perspective, that's the gist of what marriage is about.
