Actually, though "Jesus H. Christ" is using the Lord's name in vain, there is a story behind this that is worth reporting.

On crucifixes or other representations of Christ, one will see one of two sets of letters: either "INRI", or "IHS" or "IHC." The first is Latin, and represents what Pilate said to place on the Cross -- "Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum" (Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews). But the second is Greek letters, and represents the first three letters of Jesus's name in Greek: Iota - Eta (where a capital eta is written "H") - Sigma (actually, medial lowercase sigma resembles a small "o" with a tail off to the upper right, and capital sigma is the W-facing-right of mathematical equations, but it's sometimes scripted as something closely resembling a C. However, some people understood this to be His initials, with the I for Jesus and the C for Christ -- leading to the H. as a mysterious middle initial.

most people at that time did not have last names ....

However, His name was Jesus bar Joseph.
Hadn't thought about that , good .... like Osama ben Laden is osama son of ben laden .... Jesus (yeshua) son of Joseph ( the carpenter )
