Hey Number 81, what you heard is right. White bread is bad for you; not only is all the nutritional value of it robed from the processing that goes into making it, but the bleached flour used for it's maufactoring strips your bones of calcium, weaking them over time. (bleached sugars will do the same)

as for the lunch thing. subs are good and cheap. boiled eggs, baked potatoes with oliv oil...

Personally I eat only wheat bread. If you can, try to get the kinds that has calcium in it. I am supposed to get extra calcium so I am always buying stuff that is enriched with calcium.

Thankyou, but I need to know what I should look for in bread, or what I should watch out for. Is there a specific name for what they put in white bread that makes it bad for you?

Also for my lunch I go to high school and bring a bag lunch, so I need something that I can easily pack the night before.

Well, white bread, and english muffins, dinner roles...etc...all have starch in them. Starch is what causes you to gain weight, UNLESS YOU BURN IT OFF BY EXCERSISE!! Breads that are made from wheat and grains, tend to not contain any, or little starch. Bread also is packed full of carbohydrates, that for some reason, everyone is afraid of now. . Bread is fine, but like everything, do eat in moderation.

There is nothing wrong with anything that goes into white bread (and starch does not cause you to gain weight....it provides good, slow releasing energy unlike simple carbs i.e. sugars). What is wrong with white bread is that the bleached, treated flour acts like sugars causing high peaks in blood glucose levels rather than a nice, steady slow release of energy. White bread also has a lower fibre content and so wholemeal breads are more beneficial in terms of fibre.

So there's nothing actually dangerous in it....nothing that's bad for you. It's just there are alternatives out there (wholemeal or brown breads etc) that are better for you.

What is bad in white bread? Lets look at what is good in natural whole grain breads instead. Whole grains provide many nutrients, fibre and flavour. Did you know that the whole grains (good carbs) digest slower than the simple carbs found in white breads? The good news here is that it takes more calories to digest whole grain breads than to digest white bread. Whole grains are full of B vitamins, and when consumed with plenty of water will provide us with lots of energy! B12 is found in meat - liver, oysters, poultry and fish. All the others are in whole grains, oats, wheatgerm or green leafy vegetables. B1 releases energy from carbohydrates, B2 and B3 metabolizes fats, protein and carbohydrate. B2 is in wheatgerm, green leafy vegetables, milk, fish etc. So go eat some wholegrain something, it is groovy. God Bless,J

Just my 2 cents. Whole wheat bread with some natural peanut butter is actually quite a healthy lunch. You get good carbs, protein, and fat. Natural PB has no trans fats or saturated fat. So all you get is the good fats.
is jelly good for you?

B vitamins also keep the chemicals in your brain balanced, so that you dont become easily frustrated and depressed!! I read that somwhere!!
INDEED! B5 is required for making neurotransmitters (nerve impulse chemicals), B12 involved in the development and function of the nervous system, and Folate or Folic acid (also considered a B vitamin) for cell division and nervous system development in the growing fetus.
Remember, this is a water soluble vitamin, so you must drink your water to gain all its wonderful benefits, as well as consume all the variety of foods that contain these nutrients, such as whole grain breads!
Have a real groovy day! J

Polander all fruit is really the same thing. Sugar is sugar. It doesn't matter it its natural or processed. It really does the same thing in your body. You will get some more vitamins from natural fruit, but how much good stuff can you really get from a teaspoon of jelly?

Save the high sugar foods for after a workout or any excercise. This is the only time when these thing are good for you.

Pre-workout is when the 'carb' type foods should be consumed, but if you are working out for less than 1 hr. it is not necessary. Marathoners carb load and consume the 'sugary' type drinks, gelcaps etc. before a during the race/exercise. Post workout high sugar foods provides your body with too much sugar/energy, a blood sugar spike/drop, insulin rush, etc. And most importantly, your body will collect it as energy (blood glucose/muscle glycogen) and because you are not using it (like during exercise) will store any extra as FAT!
I will consume fruit in the evening, you may be considering high sugary foods as fruit? I consider the undesirable sugary foods to be cookies, cake, candy etc.
Then again, Tuffguy has specific goals to bulk up right now, so perhaps he takes a different approach?

Back to laundry now, and driving kids to and fro, God Bless,J
