  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I get the basic idea but what actually happens there?

I'm asking so I can convince my friend she's not already in hell. She has that mental problem where people think they are dead.

I want to be able to describe exactly how hell is very different from her life even though she IS suffering lately. She's a big drama queen.

So.......ya.

Please don't be too graphic btw.

The truth is that the Bible honestly doesn't exactly describe Hell. And Christians have defined Hell in many different ways over the last two thousand years. Views of Hell can range from belief that Hell is an actual spatial location "somewhere down there", to belief that Hell is a state experienced in the Age to Come (that is, the fundamental difference between Heaven and Hell isn't where we are, but how we respond to being in God's loving presence). And there are all number of views between the two.

If your friend has a medical condition, then I don't know you'll be able to convince them; it's going to require medical attention.

Hell, no matter what it's other qualities may or may not be, is eternal separation from God with no hope for redemption. While on this earth, yes, we are separated from God because of sin, but we still can accept Christ and be forgiven of all sin, which lifts the separation. Even so, God still gives us opportunities to accept Christ, so even in this separation we are not in Hell.

However if we die without accepting this truth, it is as if we permanently rejected the truth, no matter what the choice was. Indecisiveness or putting off a decision is the same as rejection. So if we die with this rejection, we are eternally separated from God. No matter how much we may or may not beg for forgiveness at that point, it's already too late.

As far as Earth being Hell, that's obviously not true. I don't know what you can say to them to convince them otherwise, but I hope I helped at least a little bit with what I think Hell is. I'm not sure if there's fire or not before the final judgment in Revelation regarding the lake of fire, and I really don't want to speculate on it. I just know that Hell is the eternal separation of us from God with no hope for redemption.

Quick questions.

Were all of these mentioned in the bible?
What do you mean by complete despair?
How can I prove to my friend that she's not truly separated from God?

No they are other people's visions of hell I have gleaned over the years.
Complete despair is never a happy thought.mind in constant turmoil and worry..enough to drive one to suicide while alive.Never a moment of peace and tranquility.
Does she believe in God?Show her the blessings that everyday brings-That would be a good start..I'll be praying for her.:crossrc:

If your friend actually thinks that she is dead, she's gonna need way more than 'logic'. Does she have a doctor?

Read the book The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat by Oliver Sacks. If I remember correctly, there's an essay in there about one of his patients who had a similar problem.

In the meantime, if your friend is in hell, start being her best friend in hell. Show her God's grace every time you see her.

God bless :)
