I've just started reading a book called "The Persian Pickle Club". I picked it up in and antique store. So far I'm really liking it. See below for review found at Amazon.com

From Library Journal

Hard times in Depression-era Harveyville, Kansas, are softened by the conviviality of a weekly quilting circle called the Persian Pickle Club. Queenie Bean, the "talkingest" member of the group, narrates the novel with snappy style. Over the course of a year, during which the club experiences more sorrow than sewing, Queenie and her pals depend on one another more than ever. When Queenie forms a fast friendship with the newest "Pickle," a flashy, big-city gal named Rita, the equilibrium of the group changes, for Rita is a novice newspaper reporter intent on making a name for herself. The story Rita most wants to crack involves the mysterious death of one of the club ladies' husbands. Will secrets long stitched into the collective fabric of friendship hold? This and other suspenseful questions of small-town life will entertain readers who enjoyed Fannie Flag's Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe (Random, 1987), Olive Ann Burns's Cold Sassy Tree (LJ 10/15/84), or Dallas's first novel, Buster Midnight's Cafe (LJ 4/15/90).?Keddy Ann Outlaw, Harris Cty. I'm reading 2 books right now.. almost done with both of them..

Compelled by Love by Heidi Baker / Iris Ministries

In 1995 Heidi and Rolland Baker gave away everything they had and traveled to the war-torn, poverty-stricken country of Mozambique. Compelled by Love chronicles their journey, giving readers a glimpse of authentic Christian community by taking a fresh look at the Beatitudes and sharing the pain of some of the poorest people in the world. It will change lives as readers put into practice the teachings of Jesus as expounded and illustrated by the Bakers' incredible life and ministry.

The Ultimate Treasure Hunt by Kevin Dedmon / Bethel Church - Redding CA..

A guide to Supernatural Evangelism through Supernatural EncountersThe Ultimate Treasure Hunt leads believers into a supernatural lifestyle of Kingdom building. Author Kevin Dedmon captures the heart of witnessing and personal evangelism

I have been reading Suze Orman's, "Women & Money".

I find it to be an excellent book that I would recommend for all women to read. I also think that men would find a few gems in it as well.

Her book has inspired me to "clean house", literally. I never really noticed how much "stuff" I had that I no longer needed, so I've made a lot of trips to the donation center here.

Oh...and the next book on my list is "The Shock Doctrine" by Naomi Klein. It looks interesting.

I've been curled up with a book my daughter sent me, "A New Kind Of Christian" by Brian D. McLaren all day . . well, when I'm not up pacing around trying to digest what I've just read! It's shaking me up, yet rings with such truth . . I have a strong hunch it's not well received by many here, but I'd love to hear from anyone else who's been reading it?

Restore the River, I'm guessing the Phyllis Tickle book you referred is along the same lines?

Having spent most of my life in service to others, praising GOD, I also spent many hours reading...

My life now (at 57), is far too busy enjoying being physically-active, to sit much to read. Yet,
I never tire of Jesus' LOVing  words ... & remembering them in my life's walk...

I just finished "September" by Rosamond Pilcher (might be spelled wrong). I am now looking for another to read but I don't want to buy it new so I need to hit the thrift stores etc. Good books are hard to find.

Now that is a really good book. Have you read The Shell Seekers? That is another of her great books. I can highly recommend it. I still have a copy. :)
