Never have understood that one. Can anybody tell me how they differ? Say from a Baptist, or Mormon, or just plain every day Christian?
One of the reasons we chose the name Seventh Day Adventist was to make a statement about two core beliefs.

1. We believe it is important to keep the seventh day Sabbath
2. We believe in the soon Advent or second coming of Christ

Hi Eveready,

A Seventh-day Adventist really is an everyday Christian. Or at least that is what they should be. We believe that the Bible is God's inspired word, and that we are saved by grace through Jesus Christ and His death on the cross.

The most noticeable difference between Seventh-day Adventist and most other Christian denominations is that we observe the seventh day Sabbath, as given in the fourth commandment of the Ten Commandments in Ex. 20:8-11, and instituted by God Himself in Gen. 2:1-3 at the end of creation week.

You might wish to look in what is called the "sticky" section, that proceedes this section, and you will find our 28 Fundimental Beliefs given, complete, with the biblical text from which they are taken. If you have questions of any kind, or would like to know more about why we observe the seventh day, Saturday, as the Sabbath instead of Sunday, please feel free to call on me at any time.

You might also like to know that the Seventh-day Adventist church has churches in 240 countries around the world and has one of the largest world wide mission services in the world. We also maintain an extreamly large educational system around the world with some of the highest rated colleges and universities, including medical schools, to be found anywhere in the world.

As I said, please feel free to contact me at anytime, even if its just to chat.

Your brother in Christ,
Doc

Everyday is the sabbath. If you've entered Gods rest. Have you done that?

Hi Everready,

The commandment says to cease from all labor on the 7th day. It's very specific.

I don't believe that we should cease from all labor seven days a week. In fact, the commandment says to work 6 days, and rest on the 7th day that God sanctified at creation.

God bless,
~Lainie

got it... but if you only labor and work for 5 days.... or 4 days... then has this commandment been broken?
Why does that matter? Well, during that time, it was considered cutomary to work six days a week.

Work for me right now is studying, doing laundry, going to the grocery store, etc since I don't have a job (well, my children are definitely a full-time job).

I don't get paid to study or do laundry, but it's definitely labor.

I think I should get paid. I'm going to take that up with management.

the early pioneers of this church took this command literally... i.e. you were commanded to work 6 days, and rest one. There was discussion about the possibility of working less than 6 days meant you were breaking the commandment...

That is why I wanted to explore what your thinking was on that part of the command... I see you are not interested, so nevermind.... we can move on...

We are to rest in Christ on the seven-day and work the other six. Both parts are in the 4th commanement. One cannot ignore one and yet be righteous according to the law. Hebrews 4 indicates that the Sabbath is a foretaste of that rest we enter into when we rest in Christ.

The words of the commandment are pretty obvious and speak for themselves. We don't have to defend it.

Six days thou shalt labor and do all thy work.

I know that doesn't mean we have to have a full-time job six days a week....there's plenty of work we have to do that we don't get paid for.
