• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

What in your oppinion is the best product to use to quit? I'm thinking about trying the patch...I don't chew gum & chanix made me out of my mind.

There is no "best" product. They are all crutches which you don't need. Not only do you not need them, but they will inhibit you quitting. The single best proven method is "cold turkey". The reason people fail cold turkey is they don't prepare for it. They hype themselves up to overcome the psychological addiction but are woefully unprepared for the physical things.

For example most people aren't ready for the way not smoking throws your blood sugar out of whack. They just instinctively know that smoking will make them feel better. If they prepared they'd know to have fruit juice on hand to help regulate it.

The best "product" I ever found for quitting was a website. http://whyquit.com I tried using the patch (would wear 2 21mg patches, have a lip stuffed with copenhagen and a lit cigarette in my mouth), gum (gross), self-hypnosis (before I had God in the picture), etc, etc, etc none of it worked. Cold turkey did but it wouldn't have worked if I wasn't ready to quit.
