  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What if?

If Jesus would have been accepted by Israel as their promised Messiah. Then Rome would have crucified Jesus and after Jesus' resurrection. Jesus would have set up the Kingdom of God for 1000 years, then and there and not some going on 2000+ years later.

So you are saying His Kingdom wouldn't have come had things worked out.

Here is God;s plan whether Jesus was rejected or accepted by Israel as their promised Messiah.

God sent The Son, The Son was to die on the cross so to take away the sin of the world. Then after Jesus was resurrected He Jesus was going to set up the Kingdom rule for 1000 years. Where satan will be locked away for that 1000 years. Where Jesus will rule His Kingdom in near (man will still be a sinner) perfect peace and with perfect justice. Then after the 1000 years are up God will usher in the eternal state and satan and unbelievers will spend eternity in the lake of fire and believer will spend eternity on the new earth living with God forever.

Obviously we can only give hypothetical answers to a hypothetical question but amongst my obsevations would be the following -

1. There would have been no remission of sins, and the charnel house which was the Temple system would have continued unabated.

2. The only people expecting a Messiah were the Jews, who were a small backwoods country in the massive Roman empire. There would have been no reason for the Romans to take any notice. Their sole focus was the Roman Empire.

It was long before Christ's time, but the Roman attitude to oppositon could be encapsulated in Cato's frequent speech endings in the 2nd Century BC viz. "Carthage must be destroyed" (Carthago delenda est), ultimately leading to the Third Punic War.

3. Christ would have had to rule like any other political ruler, including waging war, budgeting for the priesthood, and opposing certain Roman laws, including the penalty of crucifixion. Unless He used His supernatural power to defend Himself (which I think is what Judas wanted Him to do), He'd have been usurped by the Romans anyway.

4. He would have had to spread his message from the top down (eg. Pharisees and Sadducees) instead of the way Chrisitanity generally operated from the bottom up. Mind you I think a lot of ground would be made in some countries with a top down approach eg. Japan and China, if the leaders became Christian.
