  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What if I reject the Bible?

Thanks to all.
This was a mainly hypothetical question, as I'm not 'rejecting'. I'm just taking time to accept.
So I see there would be a difference between those who hear and reject, and those who never hear.
I'm getting into 'parable of the sower' territory.

"Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart."

That sounds like me, at least for the time being. But would God condemn anyone for this? After all it is "the evil one" who 'steals' the understanding, it is not, as I read it, a concious rejection.

"The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away."

This also applies to me. Mental illness can cause havoc with ones belief system.

"The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful."

Half of this applies to me, namely the 'worry' part. We all have practical concerns about our jobs, housing, family etc.

"But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown."

Definitely not me.
So we have 4 distinct types of person here. It's clear that the last one is pretty secure in their beliefs. I guess the other 3 are not automatically hellbound. After all not everyone understands something on a first reading. So there should be some 'wriggle-room'.

But you can never be sure just what type you are. It all depends on where you end up in the long run. Many Seekers coming to believe in Jesus think they have fallen onto the bad ground and fear they will fall short. But it takes time to know where you are at, sometimes years and years. The thing is you are still seeking still growing and learning, and i see you are concerned/worried about it. This leads me to have hope for you. If you where not concerned and you where not bothered to put effort into coming here and sharing your thoughts with us, then i would be worried for you. But it seems to me that the Holy Spirit is still working with you moving your heart to seek more and more. :) You have a drive and a desire to seek and that is the key to understand that your place is not yet fixed.
