  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Survey says...

I have cellulitis. I'm on antibiotics and have treatments for the 5cm gash in my heel, and I'm on vitamins and a pretty strict diet. The good news is that I found my motivation to quit smoking (due to the fact that smoking restricts blood vessels, and if cellulitis gets in my blood stream, it can kill me in short order).

God must think it's really stupid that it took a death threat to get me to quit smoking, but I am going to give it all I've got to just stop. As for my job, I'm not sure what they'll say when I tell them I have a 2-inch gash in my heel that's infected and thus I need a different job within the company, but I'm looking for a different job in the meantime. I hate to keep bouncing in and out of jobs, but I do what my circumstances dictate.

I'm praying for wisdom to get into a lifestyle that is healthier.

The other night, the machine that I use to bring in long rows of carts at my job died completely. It will not respond to anything or anyone. In fact, it took two people and myself with a pallet jack about ten minutes to move the dead machine back into the building.

Last night, I was scheduled for half of my shift alone. I work at a Wal-Mart Super Center, if that gives anyone an idea of how big a parking lot I have to cover. The guy who had just gotten off work before me is literally mentally retarded, and slower than all get out. He's a nice guy, but he just doesn't give a hoot about his job (apparently). Both cart tunnels were almost completely empty when I started my shift.

I began to work as hard and as fast I could to get as many carts as I could in, but they had me working during one of our peak times, when it is nearly impossible for three people with the cart machine to keep up. So, the call went out to the managers to ask for volunteers to help push carts.

After my shift ended, I got a "coaching session" (which is one step below a write up) about how I was not fulfilling the requirements of my job, and perhaps my company should reconsider my position with them.

I had a reasonably good day right up until that last fifteen minutes. Now I don't know what the future holds in terms of my job, if they're telling me I can't complete the job as requested.

I'm so sorry Rob. That's totally unfair. You were doing the best you could. You've got my prayers.

I'm sorry this happened and will pray that things even out at work. If something like that happens again where the cart tunnels are pretty barren, I would point it out to your supervisor at the beginning of your shift, so it doesn't appear that you're slacking on the job.

If it helps, Ive worked at WalMart before and they are VERY slow to fire someone. Did you tell them that the tunnels were empty when you started, that the cart machine is broke, and that you were the only one working OR did you just sit there and take it? I'm just curious.

I'm praying, friend.

I told them the situation, but it didn't seem to make a dent.

That's horrible, Rob! It really makes me livid when I hear about companies/bosses that treat their employees like they are not even human! It seems like it only happens to the good ones too (I know from experience...). Praying for ya man! Hope they come to their senses and realize you're not Superman.

Thank you to all who prayed, but unfortunately it seemed like I was stuck in a repeat of my last shift for this shift. Oh, and my paycheck that I got today was $150 (~110 Euros or ~213 Australian Dollars) short of what I thought it would be (but the math unfortunately adds up to support the amount on the check). Add that to the fact that I can't sleep and have to be at work at 7:00am (seven hours from now), and it's going to be a long day.

"I'm havin' trouble tryin' to sleep...I'm countin' sheep but runnin' out..."

One thing I know I often do is ask for prayer, and then forget to give credit where credit is due. I want to sincerely give a big hug to all who have prayed for me, and to thank the Lord for His work on account of your prayers.

My managers have become motivated to fix the equipment necessary to do my job. My co-workers are easier to work with. My own attitude has improved. Things on that front are going well.

When it comes to my living situation, I have peace about where I'm going in April, though to my pride, it is a big slice of humble pie. I am going to move back in with my folks, where I feel I will grow and mature with the knowledge I have now of what is necessary to live on my own.

Now if I can just get my heart to settle down, everything will be umbrella drinks on the beach...
