• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

How Substance Abuse was explain to me. If I was using it to change the way I felt, acted, thought. If I was making choice that were NOT good for me while on it, if I was breaking the law, (ANY LAW). If it would stop me from feeling, then is was a substance.
I am a believer that once we trigger that obsession and compulsion to use, we active our disease. And we can become addicted to ANYTHING that alters out state of mind.
I know some who say smoking is not a substance because it doesn't do any of that, I don't agree anymore, I watch my mother slowly die of her addition to cigarette's , she smoked 5pks a day. Needle to say, I THINK it is one of the most cunning of all drugs. Because you really don't see the effects for years and you slowly don't see how 1 can turn into 20. I smoke to relieve stress, tension, socially, before I stopped I smoked 2pks a day. I thank God for putting it on my heart to quit.
It was hard for me to let this one go, I believed it to be my last vice and I didn't want to let go of it.

Cigarrettes are quite so a substance, as well as caffeine. Both alter the body and mind and caffeine is akin to cocaine on a lesser scale.

I don't think addiction is a disease. There can be addictive personalities...such as people who have two alcoholic parents and are prone to be addicted to things, but it is not a disease per se. However, it is MUCH harder for a person with an addictive personality to quit things. For some people, doing coke and quitting is as easy as shutting a book. For others, it will drag them in like a person caught by a shark. They might not want to go down, but that pull is so strong, they can't hardly help themselves and need a strong arm or ten to help wrench them from the jaws of that shark.

I believe ABUSING drugs and alcohol is the sin.

There are the people who do choose to be addicted. It's a strange place...but you can't really understand it unless you go there or want to go there. It's like understanding the mind of a serial killer.

James 3:2
For we all often stumble and fall and offend in many things. And if anyone does not offend in speech, he is fully developed character and a perfect man, able to control his whole body and to curb his entire nature.

Mark 9: 47 And if your eye causes you to stumble and sin, pluck it out ! it is more profitable and wholesome for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into Hell.

This thread has been cleaned up. For those who were taking part in this discussion, Staff will contact you in regards to why your post(s) was/were deleted. Please be patient as we send out the necessary contacts.

PLEASE BE AWARE FOR FUTURE POSTS MADE IN THIS THREAD...
(1) Do NOT discuss faith topics. These posts will be deleted because they're OFF-TOPIC. Stick to the topic in the Opening Post!

(2) Do NOT go back and forth between each other's opinions and insult Christian beliefs. This directly violates the rules set down for CF. This is a Christian site, please be respectful--- and for Christians: please respect others who are not of the same beliefs as you.

(3) ANOTHER REMINDER: We do NOT support drug use here at CF. That goes for any illegal substance. We're here to UPLIFT those who want to stop using drugs. You can have your opinion about drug use, but in THIS forum we support those who want to 100% STOP ABUSING DRUGS. If you don't like it, go to another site--- it's not going to be accepted here.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or another Recovery Staffer. I'm sorry we had to delete so many of the posts here--- alot of them were due to being off-topic or in response to deleted posts. But alot of them were of interesting conversation and I hope that you all might want to open something on this topic perhaps in the Debate area or Theology.

This thread will be reopen within 24 hours of this updated Mod Hat. Please take the time to cool down and review any necessary notices or pm's. Thank you!

God bless and take care!
