I certainly do wish that the universe went on in a cycle of big bang, then big crunch for infinity, but the scientific evidence suggests that our universe has not existed for infinity, and it will not go on for infinityCome to think of it, if the universe is infinite (I don't mean this universe specifically, I mean, perhaps, if there's an infinite "metaverse" or something) it's possible that we've lived our lives before. Not that it would be meaningful to any of us if we have, because we would never know, but I wonder...
What evidence is this?I certainly do wish that the universe went on in a cycle of big bang, then big crunch for infinity, but the scientific evidence suggests that our universe has not existed for infinity, and it will not go on for infinity
No, I know that this universe specifically will not exist infinitely and has a definite beginning and will have a definite end (well, maybe, it depends). What I meant, and I don't really have a better term for it, is that if there's a larger-scale cycle to the universe, such as various proposed metaverses, or Lee Smolin's idea of universal propagation through black holes, or whatever, that if it were infinite it could be possible that we exist more than once.I certainly do wish that the universe went on in a cycle of big bang, then big crunch for infinity, but the scientific evidence suggests that our universe has not existed for infinity, and it will not go on for infinity
Our universe as we observe it. Why is it people always leave out those four little important words? It didn't appear from nothing and it isn't just going to disappear.I certainly do wish that the universe went on in a cycle of big bang, then big crunch for infinity, but the scientific evidence suggests that our universe has not existed for infinity, and it will not go on for infinity
The human mind has the unique capacity to create boredom dispite the limitless choices available to it. Trust me, you'd find a way to get bored.I strongly suspect when it's over, it's over, though I'd like it to be otherwise. I'm one of those people who'd love to live forever, as long as I wasn't in pain and my mind still functioned. How could one be bored? There's an endless array of stuff to learn and think about.
What happens when we die?
What do you think will happen to you when the times comes?
You say that with such confidence, stating it as fact as if you knew it to be true. But how could you know that? How can I know that - without simply having to assume it on faith alone? Can you give me one good reason to believe there even is such a thing as a soul? How do I know somebody didn't just make that up?When you die your spirit leaves your body. The spirit of man is the seat of consciousness.
What happens when we die? It is going to happen to me and it will happen to you someday. Scarry. What do you think will happen to you when the times comes?
P.S.
I am asking this in other parts of this sight as well.
