Come to think of it, if the universe is infinite (I don't mean this universe specifically, I mean, perhaps, if there's an infinite "metaverse" or something) it's possible that we've lived our lives before. Not that it would be meaningful to any of us if we have, because we would never know, but I wonder...

I certainly do wish that the universe went on in a cycle of big bang, then big crunch for infinity, but the scientific evidence suggests that our universe has not existed for infinity, and it will not go on for infinity

What evidence is this?

No, I know that this universe specifically will not exist infinitely and has a definite beginning and will have a definite end (well, maybe, it depends). What I meant, and I don't really have a better term for it, is that if there's a larger-scale cycle to the universe, such as various proposed metaverses, or Lee Smolin's idea of universal propagation through black holes, or whatever, that if it were infinite it could be possible that we exist more than once.

You have to consider that if this is the one and only universe to ever exist in the history of infinity, that it's kind of funny we even exist at all.

Our universe as we observe it. Why is it people always leave out those four little important words? It didn't appear from nothing and it isn't just going to disappear.

I strongly suspect when it's over, it's over, though I'd like it to be otherwise. I'm one of those people who'd love to live forever, as long as I wasn't in pain and my mind still functioned. How could one be bored? There's an endless array of stuff to learn and think about.

The human mind has the unique capacity to create boredom dispite the limitless choices available to it. Trust me, you'd find a way to get bored. :p

What happens when we die?

I suppose it would be a bit like going into a deep sleep, except one ceases to exist. Perhaps one would have a NDE before the end.

What do you think will happen to you when the times comes?

I hope to have the time to look back at my life, to cherish good memories, and to put the final "The End" on the great and wonderful adventure that was my life.

When you die your spirit leaves your body. The spirit of man is the seat of consciousness.
You say that with such confidence, stating it as fact as if you knew it to be true. But how could you know that? How can I know that - without simply having to assume it on faith alone? Can you give me one good reason to believe there even is such a thing as a soul? How do I know somebody didn't just make that up?

What happens when we die? It is going to happen to me and it will happen to you someday. Scarry. What do you think will happen to you when the times comes?

P.S.

I am asking this in other parts of this sight as well.

Basically you rot to nothing, unless of course your corpse is in exceptional ground conditions, then you might be preserved and fossilised.

I suppose that question lead to many a mystical answer, but if we have a afterlife, then all living things including bacteria would have to have a afterlife.

There is nothing special about humans, except our delusions of grandeur; apart from that we are the same as everything else, filling a fleeting moment in space and time.

So NOTHING happens when you die, we should just be happy with what we’ve got.

A couple of things I read and experienced makes me believe in the reincarnation hipotesys.

Ok, I will concede, before you complain: if any of those were enough, acceptable evidence, we would not have this kind of discussion.

So, let's stick with the "no matter. The important is what we make happen while we're alive" answer
